CAPL'AN RELIGIONISTS.
The lack of harmony In the dem
ocratic party to aa plenty to poverty
compared with that in the First Bap
tist church of PortlarycL Some of the
congregatloa want the pastor. Dr.
Blackburn, to resign or be thrown out,
nd others want him to remain. In
this clash of Jarring religionists, one
clarion voice is heard. A "prominent
member'" of the church, In conversa
tion with a Telegram reporter, unbur
dens himself of ..the following senti
ments: , ,., ': ' ,
"A fine large splendidly equipped
church, one of the best pipe organs
In the Pacific northwest, a membership
composed of some of the very elite of
the city, and empty pews on worship
days, that Is the real situation." Possi
bly the elite are out playing golf. '
"We want a younger, more liberal,
fresh and up-to-date preacher." Possi
bly Dr. Blackburn depends too much on
the Bible, which, even In the revised
edition, is not appropriately described
as "up-to-date."
"Why, think of It," continues the
prominent member, 'with all our fine
equipment, location, and everything to
make attending sen-tee a pleasure as
well as a religious duty, last Sunday
evening there were but sixty-four
, members In ttie congregation." Possi
bly the. theaters are-better equipped,
have better locations, and more to
make attending them a pleasure than
the First Baptist church.
The Prominent Member does more to
damn the cause of the members that !
re trying to oust the- pastor than a j
thousand arguments could accomplish, j
. He shows that a popular church is
wanted, one where the minister will
not bother too much with tiresome re
. ligion, but will rather make his ser-
mon subsidiary to the pleasure that!
should attract worshippers to the house
of God. .
r The lamentable thing about the
Prominent Member is that he is a type.
Those who go to church avowedly be-
cause
they believe
in Christianity ,
should endeavor to make their actions
. correspond with their professions, and
then there would be less scoffing
among those that do not hold with
chureh-golrig in any shape. Every man
to his belief, but away with the hypocrites.
GOOD BLOOD
SPEAKS FOR
You know when rich, red blood is coursing through
the veins, for it shows in the brightness of the eye, the
beauty and clearness of the complexion, the smooth, fair
. elrin, and robust, healthy constitution. It is rood blood
that imparts strength and energy to
healthfulness and vigor. Good blood
to be physically and mentally 6ound it
People with good blood possess strong,
steady nerves and are blest with good
appetites and digestion, and enjoy
sound, refreshing sleep. If we could
alwavs maintain the rmrihr of th.
blood then we might enjoy perpetual
health, but it becomes infected and
poisoned and most of the ills that afflict
humanity and undermine the constitu
tion are caused by an impoverished
or polluted condition of this vital fluid.
When the blood is diseased the skin
loses its healthy appearance, and the
complexion, its freshness and beauty
and becomes red and rough and full of
, pimples and splotches. Itching, scaly
eruptions, blackheads, boils and rashes
1 break out upon the body when the
blood is too poor or too thin and acid,
and is not supplying proper nourish
ment to the system. Debility, poor
appetite, bad digestion, restless sleep
and nervousness more often come from
sluggish, impure blood than any other
cause. To build up the blood, restore its lost properties and make it rich
and nutritious again is the only rational treatment, and the proper way to
get rid of skin troubles. ; There is no remedy like S, S. S. to accomplish this
disappear, the appetite improves, the complexion clears and you get rid of
1 those miserable depressing feelings and nervousness, and enjoy once more the
blessings of good health. S. S. 8. is nature's remedy for all blood and skin dls
; eases. It contains no minerals whatever, but is guaranteed purely vegetable,

Eastern papers are full of Bever

crops out is that he is too much like
