The death of Captain William P.
Dillon, whkihr occurred In Portland
the Brat part of this week, resulted
from internal Injuries received white
his steamer, the Fannie, was lying at
Hanler Sunday. The falling of a der
rick aoro'M an abandoned wharf, which
Captain Dillon was crowing, struck
him. At the time he did not suffer
greatly, but he became worse after
reaching his home, and he died the
nex; evenlrg. He Is survived by his
wife and n son, 14 year of age.

LABOR DAY CELEBRATION.
At last night' meeting of the team
sters' union the proposal pf the labor
council to fittingly observe Labor day
was taken up. It was the unanimous
wish of the union that a good cele
bration be had and the member will
do all, In their power to help make tt a
success. . '
The excursion committee reported that
everything pointed to a large crowd
going to Olney next Sunday. ,

and the best time hitherto made was

The German bark Alternixe Is In the
harbor ready for sea. She ha a load
of piles for China.
The ship Mylomene, w-frich brought
three thousand tons of coal for Victoria
from Cardiff, and has been lying Idle
since discharging her cargo, was char
tered yesterday by the Canadian Paci
fic railway through a Vancouver ship
ping firm, for novel purpose. The
Mylomene is to be towed to Vancouver
to be used for a floating warehouse,
for, owing to the large Imports of Jap
anese coal, a a result of the strike
at the Vancouver Island coa mines,
the tdrage for coal at' Vancouver has
been all requisitioned. WitJh the freight

The Tillamook Dairy men's associa
tion has sold 100,000 pounds of cheese
to a San Francisco firm. The deal wa

must be delivered by August 14.

a very , heavy crop of potatoes this
year. The Tillamook Driving associa
tion has elected the following board of
director: Claude Thayer, F, R. Beals,
