BKPOnTED SALE OF STEAMEft According to the Telegram, the latest sale reported on the beach Is that of the steamship South Portland, now en route to Portland from 8an Pedro with a cargo of 17 tons made up of pickles and houschtld furniture. She comes to W. A. Gordon company, and will load with wheat, but her consignees state they do not know what lll be her port of discharge at thla time. The South Portland belongs to the Prgresso Steam ship company of San Francisco and K Is claimed she wus sold to a Portland company, Mr. Gordon, when seen dis claimed nil knowledge of such a trans action and etated that he knew of no purchase or lease ot the craft. The San Francisco owners of the vessel at so control the steamship Progress and several other deep water steam yes els. In connection with the report came another, conveying the informa tion that the South Portland and prob ably a second steamer, would be plac ed on a permanent run out ot Portland.
