ALDERBROOK EXERCISES.
Particularly rood exercises were giv
en by the Alderbrook school Friday af
ternoon In observance of Memorial day.

DEATH OF MRS. ?. L. PARKER.
Word waa received here late last
night from Seaside announcing the
death of Mrs. C. L. Parker. Mrs.
Parker formerly resided here out tne
family moved away about eigni year,
ago and since then have been either In

five weeks Mr. Parker has been at Sea
side.. For the past year sne nas own
a suftVrer from consumption and the
end wis looked for. C. L. Parker is
the youngest brother, of H. B. ana
Freeman Parker of this city. Many

She Is survived by a husband and four

DEATH OF MRS. WRIGHT.
Mm? Robert C. Wright, daughter of
the late Judge J. H. D. Gray, died at
the home of her mother In thl, city at
12 o'clock laat night. Mr. Wright had
been a, sufferer for a year put, being
afflicted with a tomach trouble, and
the end wa expected. She had been
here since last Sunday night., Mr.
Wright is an attorney of Portland. He
will arrive Jown thla forenoon and un
til then the funeral arrangement will
pot be made, Mr. Wright waa Laura
Qenlvclvo Gray and was born In thl
city 28 year ago. Her education was
obtained In this city and for some time
previous to her marriage she taught la
the local school. Two year ago she
was married to Mr. Wright and since
then 'has made: her home In Portland.
Mrs. Wright did not suffer greatly dur
ing her Illness, and was conscious uutll
the last. . , . " -' .

Exercises Well Attended
Not less than $00 people visited the
cemeterie yesterday assisting In the
decoration of grave of the soldier dead
and paying tribute alto to the memory
of their own loved ones and to the mem
ory of deceased members of fraternal
organisations. The day waa perfect
and nothing occurrd to mar Its seren

The steamers R.MIIer, Mayflower, Jor
dan and a large barge '.onv yed crowds
from the city to Greenwood, and many

from all the surrounding country. A
considerable number also visited Oat
top and Ocean View cemeteries on the

wood. The address waa delivered .by
C. E. Foater. A handsome monu
ment was unveiled at the grave of Mrs.
Katherine Feeley by the Women of
Woodcraft with the services of the rit
ual of the order. Other organltations
also were represented In the honors
paid to the dead.
SERVICES AT THE HALL

Hon. George Noland and he delivered

tributes to the brave men to whose
memory the day la set apart. An or
chestra of six pieces delighted the
large audience with several selections.
The exercises of the ' day concluded

strength and feeling.

During the past two day the run oft
salmon baa been slightly improved. A
number of boats brought In from 400
to 500 pounds each. They do not aver
age quite a large as was the case a
few days ago, but are of finer quality.
Warmer weather now apparently com
mencing Is expected to make a very ma

NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS
Notice is hereby given, that at a
meeting of the Carpenters' union of As
toria, held Saturday evening. May 23,
1903, a resolution was' unanimously
adopted, providing, that on and after
September 1, 1903, the wages shall he
$3 per day", and eight hour shall con
stitute a day' work. This will not af
fect contracts made prior to that date,
or uncompleted buildings.
