In all cities of the size of Astoria there

amusement and sociability wherever
they can find it, and without any prop

course there are scoffers who ridicule
such philanthropic effort, just as all
good things are ridiculed, especially In
their first stages, but such noble wo
men aa our correspondent who have
reared their own families are far more
entitled to consideration and regard
than their self-constituted and arro

and honor lies in the fact that they
:iave existed long ermUKh to be em
powered by an unjust law to exercise
the right to vote. All honor to those
who seek the welfare of the race and
are self-sacrificing enough to contrlb

'Twaa a wise one who remarked:
"When you fight or work, don't make a
fuss. The hen cackles only after she
has laid an egg. The noise and slaxle
of a locomotive are not force. All force
1 sHent. The hee-haw of a mule may
startle, but it is not as dangerous as
his hind legs. Bear in mind that it is an.
empty wagon that makes the most
noise when in motion. The noise of a
drum Is due to the fact that there is
nothing In it."
A physician say that women do not
drink enough clear water. They should
drink a tumbler full of clear water,
slowly, on rising, and another at night.
If this rule is persisted in day after day,
the complexion will Improve and the
general health likewise. Do not drink
during meals, only a little after.
A few dollars expended In beautify
ing the home grounds will 'give con
stant pleasure and make the whole fam
ily happy. Bright flowers and plenty
of them should be the rule.

t
. Rheumatism does not come and go with wintef
time always; in fact some suffer more during tit
Spring and Summer than at any other season. When
the blood is charged with Uric Acid, Alkali and other,
irritating poisons, then the system is in the right
condition for Rheumatism to develop, and an attack
is liable to come at any time, Winter or Summer.
Rheumatism, because it attacks different parts of
the body, and is sudden or slow in its action, is gives
various names sttch as acute and chronic, muscular.
