In all cities of the size of Astoria there re dosens of boys whose home train tog fe sadly neglected, who receive lit tle or no care from their parents be yond being supplied with a place to eat . and sleep. Many ; parents are too luay. too much absorbed with the pur suit of a living or of pleasure," or too 4 careless to devote the time and thought to the training of thelr children which . the successful development of a boy to make him safe and 'dependable re quires. As a result the boys seek amusement and sociability wherever they can find it, and without any prop er restraint from parents. To have to hustle for himself, thereby Becoming, self -dependent and "sharp" has been the making of many a good boy, but where one develops ambition and pride enough to climb out of an un promising early environment there are la who adapt themselves to circum stances and contract dissolute and shift less habits which Insure their going through, life with the disadvantage of Mo; untrained and undisciplined in mind or body, and in many cases with tendencies to the vicious and the crlm Iiml. Such are the influences to which boys are subjected when turned topse ' an the streets of a city. It Is Idle to say that such parents should be child less, that there should be restrictions, etc. The boys are here, they are neg jKted. and they need and deserve at tention. It Is no fault Of their own that they are not provided with whole some surroundings and wise guard -fens. -i . 7 Any efforts to help these boys to be come good! men and ut-eful citizens Is , worthy of commendation and support, forts ma effort has been made, in a snail was and as a beginning, by the ladies of the W. A physician say that women do not drink enough clear water. They should drink a tumbler full of clear water, slowly, on rising, and another at night.
