He thought the man was trying to be fun ny at hi expense, but when he reach ed his store in the morning he discov ered that the cash drawer had been robbed, while cigars, cake and canned goods had been carried away. March S6.-A bold rob bery in one of the department stores has been repcrted to the police by Miss Ethel Payton. describing herself as an artists, and Mrs. Ludwig, a widow. The women were shopping in a store on Sixth avenue, and as they were leaving the store by the main entrance two women, one dressed in red, seized Mrs. Ludwig's left hand and pulled from one of her fingers a ring, while at the same time the woman dressed in blue pushed Mrs. Payton against the inside door rapidly ran her haad into the pocket of her coat and took a purse containing about $24. Both wo men got away before an outcry could be made, so quickly did they work. COMBINATIONS WILL BE MERGED " " Companies ' Representing $63,000,000 Capital to Join Forces. Trenton, N. X, ' March 2S. Articles of merger were filed in the office of the secretary of state today, merging the American Steel Hoop company. Na tional Steel company and the Carnegie campany into the National Steel com pany, with a capitalization of 1 53.000. 000. By this merger the new corpora tion will save over J7000 each year in fees paid to the state of New Jersey. The directors of the new corporation are W. E. Corey, C. M. Schwab, E. H, Gary. W.. W. Blackburn and Thom as Murray. The officers of the com pany are W. E. .Corey, president; VT. W. Blackburn, secretary and treas urer; W. C. McCausltnd, assistant treasurer; J. J. Every employe of thrt city, from the heads of the de partment down to the scrub women, except those in the offices of the con troller and city clerk, who are not di rectly under the recorder, will today receive a copy of this letter: . "Owing to the change In administra tion and consequent reorganization of the dty employes, you are hereby no tified that your services will not be required on and After April. 1 unless you are otherwise notfled."
