YOSEMITE WATER FOR 'FRISCO Project Involves Bringing Water 140 Miles at a Cost of $40,000,000. New York, March 15. Hon. Franklin K. Lane recently a candidate for gov ernor of California, and the city attor ney for San Francisco, Is In New Tork. His mlsson in coming east Is to se cure from the department of the inter ior the riht to use two reservoir site's on the Yosemite National park as a source of water supply for San Fran cisco. Applications were made for these sites two years ago by the mayor, but was rejected. The city now renews the application in its own name. If they are irranted the water supply will be owned by the municpallty. Plans and estimates have already been made which call for an expendi ture of $40,000,000. In general outline the scheme Is to hold back in giant reservoirs the waste flood waters of the Tuolmne river, and by canals and pipes carry ihe water across the San Joaquin valley and undtr San Fran cisco bay, a distance of 140 miles. The new charter of San Francisco makes it mandatory that the question of municipal ownership of the water supply shall be submitted to the vote of the people, and it Is In conformity with that direction that the plans of the Tuolmne project have been made. Claims against the city for heavy damages for person al injuries received at Madison square on ladt election night when several bombs exploded In the crowd during the fireworks celebration, have begun to appear In the office of the city con troller. One for $25,000 damages was by Samuel Milker, a youth who was severely injured, has been filed.
