G11KO l LEMON JUICE NOT EFFECTIVE Test Prove the Acid Wilt Not Destroy Typhoid Germs. NEW i'ORK, Jun. 2.-Dr. -W. II. Park, baterlologlst of the department of health, ha made several expert ments to determine the valuo of lemon Juke In destroying typhoid bacilli, re gardlng which much has been publish ed recently Several microscopical ex aminations of cultures of typhoid ba clllli which had been subjected to the action of the lemon Juice showed that although the acid killed the micro-or ganisms,. It required too much acid and too. much time for the chemical uctlon to take place to render lemon Juice as an agent pratlcable. Dr. Parks' nega tive opinion In regard to the efficacy ot the acid as a typhoid prophylactic wa corroborated, for after the bacilli had been acted upon by a five percent solution of the acid for SO minutes. It was found that all of them had nut been destroyed. Dr. Park when questioned regarding the experiment said: "My suspicions were confirmed by the test. It I far safer to boll the water or Alter It prop erly than to trust to lemon Juice to de stroy any typhoid bacilli that may be In It. Of course, the statement that the acid would destroy any typhoid germs that might be contained in oysters by sprinkling It on the outside 1 ridicu lous." BERLIN, Jan. 2.
