X-RAY SOCIETY MEETS. CHICAGO, Dec. 11. At the opening session of the third annual meeting of the Ronetgen Kay society held here, Dr. G. P. Glrwood, president of the society, read his annual report arid Dr. M. J. Wllbert of Philadelphia read a paper on the systematic records and the routine use of the x-ray. Dr. J. Rudls Jiclnski of Cedar Rapids, la. read a paper on the subject of "Skia graphy as an Art." and DV. E. II. Grubb read a paper on "Results and Technique In Treatment With X-Rays," Several other amendments to the bill were adopted, fixing the expenses of the commissioners and assistant re corders at $10 per day ad leaving the question of the amount of salary of the assistant recorders and employes to the commission. The name of the commission was -'hanged to "Anthra cite Coal Strike Arbitration." The statehood bill came up and there was a brisk exchange between Quay, who favors the omnibus bill, and the senators bo oppose It, regarding its consideration. Quay said: "If republicans can lie to the people about the admission of territories in their platform they can He about every other provision in the platform." BUTTE, Dec.,lL-A special to the Mine from Great Falls, Mont, says A, wreck occurred on the Great North ern tonight about two miles south ot here. One engine and 25 cars were completely wreckid and Engineer Got ham and Conductor Stroupe were In jured. The tram consisted of 77 coal cars and was drawn by two engines. The operator was "L.-.U., Crawford, president of the People' Coal com pany, which operates the Oxford col-, llery in Scranton. The request for him tp take the stand was a surprise. The Oxford colliery during the strike man aged to get enough men to operate th plant and for one month, according to Crawford, his company received $20 per ton for Its coal. Yale and Harvard Meet to Discuss Plans for Future Conduct NEW YORK, Dec. ll.-Plans are under way at both Harvard and Yale to come to a mutual agreement dur ing the coming Chlstmast holidays re garding both a new schedule of ath letic meets between the two univer sities and a new set of eligibility rules, says a Times dispatch from New Ha- en, Conn. From what can be learned, It Is pro posed to work out a new set of rules that will be Identical for both Har vard and Yale and will limit the candl dates to the various university grades. The result of the present system has been that several athletic teams, es pecially football elevens, at all of the large universities In recent years, have drawn to a large extent on graduates of western colleges for their star men to the exclusion of undergraduates In their own Institutions and has. made possible for mature athletes from small colleges to enter Into sports where they meet undergraduates on opiioslng teams from five to 10 years their Junior. It hus likewise brought about sev. eral unpleasant controversies between Yule and Harvard, and It haa brought to the schools of both universities set of men who come for almost the only purpose of entering athletics.
