Klmberly ,a prominent occulist, was shot this afternoon by John Svanlon. a former policeman, who then shot and killed himself. Scanlon asserted. it Is said, that Klmberly had caused - hi id to lose his eyesight POSTAL RECEIPTS FOR OCTOBER. Statistics Show an Increase of IS Per cent Over a Tear Ago. WASHINGTON, Nov. H.-Statlstics of the gross postal receipts of the gov- ernment for last month, as compared with October 1901, at 60 of the largest post offices in the country, show a total of $5,580,599, an Increase of 15 percent. The largest 'ncrease teas SS percent at Los Angelis, while the largest de crease was H percent at Buffalo. LINERS ECOUNTER STORMS. Taconta and Indrapura Reach Orient After Hard Voyage. VICTORIA. B. C, Nov. 11-The steamer Empress of China from the Orient brought advices of a terrible voyage of the liners Tacoma and In drapura, the former from Victoria and the lattsr from Portland. The Tacoma spent 23 days In reaching Yokohama, nine days longer than usual and the Indrapura was 24 days from Astoria to Yokohama In consequence of storms. U The English press continues to regard the German emperor's visit with suspicion and distrust, cables the London correspond ent of the Tribune. He Is not lamp ooned or caricatured, hut It Is gener ally assumed that he is here for busi ness purposes and that he must not be allowed to have what he wants. The conjectures respecting his mis sion differ widely but the conclusion is the same in every Instance, namely that the ministers must be on their guard and decline all overtures for joint action of England and Germany whether in East Africa, Asia Minor or the Yangtse valley. LUNATIC ATTACKS SURGEON. Fierce Struggle Occurs In Rapidly Driven Ambulance. NEW YOK, Nov. ll.-A terrible struggle in which Dr. Hyde of Belle vue hospital was seriously injured, oc curred in an ambulance while the ve hicle was being driven rapidly through . the streets of this city. The ambulance had picked up an al most unconscious man at Union mark et and started to the hospital. Dr. Hyde, the ambulance surgeon, was sit ting alone near the door when the ua tlent suddely leaped to his feet with a scraam and fell upon the doctor. The driver, fearing tils team would run away If he came to the rescue, headed toward a police station, lashing his team Into a wild run.
