Mitchell Coltman appeared yesterday before Judge Goodman on the charge of stealing a watch from a painter In the employ of Allen A Son. The theft oecured on Astor street Tuesday morn ing while the painter wa eng.ujed at hi work. He had hung bis vent, which contained the watch, not far from him and, later when he put It on discover ed his timepiece was missing. Soon after Coltman waa arrea'cd on sus picion of being the thief and search revealed the mooting property on him. At his hearing yesterday he pleaded guilty to the charge, stating that he wa drunk at the time he committed the offense. This confession .however, did not free him from guilt In the eyes j of the law and he waa accordlriRly sen tenced to nerve W day In the county Jail. Coltman is a young man, not being much over 20 year of uge, but Is evidently old In the transRTesalon of law.
