Harris are in the city from Port land, Miss Carol JeflVra visited the city yesterday from her home on the Lewis and Clark. ' City Engineer A. S. Tee left up for Portland last evening to attend the good roads convention. Mrs. Thomas Simpson and daughter Bertha and Grace left last evening for a brief visit In Portland. John Dement and tamily will leav today for San Diego, California, where they will spend the winter. County Surveyor Astbury leaves this morning to attend the good roads on vention to be held in Portland. Mrs. F. Lleiweber, who has been visiting with her mother, Mrs. Kutt ner .returned last night to her home. Commlssipner Andrew Young will at tend the good roads convention in Port land and left up last evening for that purpose. Wm. Larson and K. F. Johnson, both dairymen of the Lewis and Clark returned Sunday from a brief business trip to Portland. THEIS WOODEN WEDDING. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Brown observed their wooden wedding last evening and entertained a number of their friends in honor of .he occasion. Refresh ments were served during the evening and the guests all joined in the Inno cent game of hearts. A joyous feature of the event was the Virginia reel which was engaged in much to the merriment of all. MARINE NOTES. The 0. R. N. steamer Columbia has arrived from San Francisco. The three masted schooner Fannie Adell Is In from San Francisco to load lumber. The four masted schooner Fearless left up for Portland Sunday to load lumber. The lighthouse tender Mazanlta will leave up for Portland this morning to take on supplies. The barkutlne Madagascar is In port from Algoa oay. The vessel Is in bal last under Captain Smith. The three wasted schooner J. M. Wetherwax arrived !n port Sunday from San Francisco. The vessel will load lumber at Portland. ' The German ship Adolph, from San Francisco, Captain Schlpmann, arrived in yesterday. The vessel Is chartered to load grain at Portland. The manifest of the British ship Cy yromone was filed yesterday in the customs house. The vessel is loaded with 99,914 bushels of wheat valued at $63,943. ' The British steamship Indrashama, Captain Craven, arrived Sundv from Hong Kong via. Yokohama. The ves sel brought with her matting, rice, tea and curios from the Orient. The T. J. Potter became so badly damaged while trying to effect a land ing at the Alnsworth dock tn Port land that it has been found necessary to take her oft the run pending repair. The Harvest Queen Is running In her stead. The large English freighter Poplar Branch arrived rfom San Fran cisco Sunday and yesterday started up for Portland. The vessel is under Captain Andrew Anderson, who was master of the Olive Rrf.nch when that vessel went through the Madison street bridge at Portland. The American steam schooner Mteor arrived from Portland yesterday and later put to sea. The vessel Is bound for TopjloKvmpo, Mexico, and carries a cargo consisting of S8.1T2 feet of rough pine, 7,625 feet of surface p'ne, 869.J51 feet of piles, with a total valu ation of $15,469.. The steam schooner Grace Dollar put Into port yesterday morning in dis tress. The vessel was bound for San Francisco from Grays harbor with lumber. A defect was discovered in her crank shaft and rather than run any 'risk of a serious mishap at sea the vessel was put into this port toj undergo repairs. Tp to a late hour last night .he had not started out. but doubtless will this morning. The Lime Branch has finished taking on its cargo and today will leave the wharf, where It has been lying since coming down from Portland and If the weather and tides are propitious will leave out about noon tolay. There were 43,356 buhsels of wheat valued nt J27.531.40. placed on board the vessel while In this Jort. The balance of her cargo. 513.062. valued at $130.440. 3- was taken on at Portland. Mies Nellie Abbott Is home again after spending the summer at Seaside. Mrs. C. A. McGulre was a passen ger for Astoria on the Monday morn ing train. Ernest Coffey has returned to Ham mond, after a year and a half spent in Alaska Mrs. Suley and daughter, who have been vipiting at the Flavel, left for Portland Monday. Ben Ward trough over a band of horses Sunday and will pasture them on his place this winter. Miss Sophie Rleman returnee' to Portland Monday, after spending three weeks with relatives in Skipar.on. "Grandpa" Kindred has returned from Portland, having gone to attend the wedding of his grandson, Harry May. Rev. Wlliiam S.
