The Misses Maysie and Am roster recently left for Oregon Cliy. The former will teach In the city school and the latter attend school. The church will m Mis Foster where her beauti ful contralto voice lias been heard so often. SOCIETY. On Wednesday next Mrs. 0. J. Trench ard, Mrs A. Vandusen. Mrs. W. L. Robb, Mrs. H. W. Cbristensen and Mrs, C. L. Houston will entertain at Hinthorn ball. Mrs. W. O. Wilkinson's entertainment Wednesday afternoon waa decidedly tankne and proved a rare treat for tbe ladies present. Daring Mrs. Wilkinson foreign travels Bhe secured many pbot graphs of interest, which were displayed and explained by the hostess. Tbe nov elty of the function appealed strongly to the guests, and the afternoon waa pro claimed "delightful." lira, J. E. Ferguson entertained on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, as- listed by Mrs. J. E. Biggins, Mrs. E. Ferguson and the Misses Fox, Elmore and Winifred Higgin. After moaio by Mrs. C. L. Honaton, Mrs. Brooks and f ias Fox, the game of progressive tops waa played. First prises were awarded to Mrs. K. E. Howes and Mrs. James Tatton, and booby prises to Mrs. Frank Patton and O. Wingate. The afternoons were delightfully spent by ladies present, numbering more tbsn a hundred. Two charming receptions were held at tbe home of Mrs. A. V. Allen this past week. On Thursday evening a number of guests' were entertained in bonor of Miss Gilbert, Mrs. Allen's visiting sister The rooms were handsomely decorated with asters, sweet peas and other choice flowers. The arrangements for the eve ning were such as characterize an at home nnder an adept hostess. On the following evening J. The funeral of Mrs. James Coffey of Hammond, Oregon, took place here last Sunday at 10 o'clock from the Presby terian church. Rev. Foster officiating, The church was filled with friends and relatives from various places, who came to pay their last respects to one who was widely known and much loved and respected. On Thursday. September 25, at 10 o'clock a. m., the funeral of Mrs. Eliza beth Banks was held In the Presbyter tan church. Rev. Foster officiating, The services were very Impressive. Mrs Banks had been a great sufferer from cancer for over five years, and death came to her as a happy release. She was forty-nine years of age. She leaves a husband and an adopted daughter fourteen years old to mourn her loss. Mrs. Banks had a large circle of friends, who were untireing In their efforts) during her long period of su (ferine to make life as bright as pos sible for her. She will be greatly missed. Immediately after the funeral of Mrs Banks, the funeral of Mr. Empo of Blind Slough took place at the Pres. byterian church. Mr. Empo died Jn Salem, Oregon, where he had been un der treatment In the asylum for Insane there. He leaves a wife and family. Mr. Empo had lived at Blind Slough for a long time and had a large circle of friends and aeauairrtances both here and in Astoria. Mr. Hawkins preached his farewell sermon last Sunday. We will miss Mr. Hawkins, who has preached here for over two years, and during this time built the M. E. church. A fare well social was held In Union Hall last Saturday evening at which Ice cream, cake and coffee were served, for the benefit of this church. Prof. T. 6. Hutchinson's school will close Friday, with appropriate exer cises. Mrs. J. W. Crow's school will close this week. Clara Frantx, daughter of A. Frantz, has the typhoid fever. Mrs. Llsenby was recently called to NON-CONFORMISTS IN SADDLE. NE-W TORK. Sept. !7.-Premier A. J. Sunday school at 12:30. Serv ice at 330 in the afternoon in the Holy Innocents chapel in Vppertown. At the Baptist church all the usual services will be observed tomorrow. The disappearance and reappearance of Moses are the subjects to be discussed In the sermons. Every member of the church Is especially requested to be present at the morning service, and everybody else are cordially invited to all the services.
