An Eastern preacher has made an
attack atrainst ladles coming to church
without hats. The reverend gentleman
must be very short of subjects for ser
mons and he certainly struck a very
dangerous one in .lis last atempt He
forgets, perhaps, that million art wir

trouble Is to suppress the millinery craze
and that perachcr knowts that, at two
seasons of the year especially, there
are numbers of ladies that go to church
a little more regularly with a new hat
or gown than with an old one. If the
ladies dont want to wear hats at
church they have right on their side.
It should be the last duty of a min
iate rto Insist on a head being covered
to bow their knee to worship. The mil
linery business has a unique place in
the home, the church and even In ihe
state, but he is a daring man who will
venture to tell a woman what to wear
and when. Not only so, but he is
foolish, because she won't do Jt any
way. !
The news from England that salmon

Astoria very well. If it doubled in
price It would not hurt us and that
