John Larson. the bicycle rider, In attempting to "loop the loop'' at the carnival grounds tonight, fell Into the crowd of specta tors, Injuring throe men. He came down the incline at a ter rific speed, and when the ascent be gan the loop swayed under the heavy weight, throwing him Into the crowd. The bicycle, which weighs 55 pounds. struck P. C. George, Jack Belmont and a man named Ellsworth, cutting and bruising them badly. 1 Women fainted and a stampede was narrow! averted. Larsen was not Injured. TRACY REWARD IS PAID. SALEM, Ore., Sept. 6. Secretary of State Dunbar today paid the reward for the capture of Tracy to the Ave men of Creston, Wash., who wounded the outlaw and captured him. This ends the Tracy chapter in this state, TRANSPORT ARRIVES HOME. Brings 900 Men of Eighth, Fifteenth and Twenty-Sixth Infantry. SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. .-The transport Buford arrived tonight, 41 days from Manila. The long trip was caused by her putting in at Honolulu on account of her defective machinery. A special from Lowther, Howard county, says: The body of a man who killed him self Sunday was found In a field near here. Will Expiate Crime by Hanging Ac complice Will Receive Same. BUTTE, Sept. t. James Martin was sentenced to death today for the mur der eft Fireman James Williams at Silver Bow Junction. Clark, of Montana, Is said to be the head of a syndicate that has purchased the McVey copper proper ty, situated on Joe Creek in the Sis kiyou mountains. The price Is given out as $300,000. While the property is in Siskiyou county, California, the outlet, owing to the configuration of the mountains, is by way of Jackson and Josephine counties, ' In Oregon. NEW YORK, Sept .-A conference of Boer sympathizers representing German and Irish societies in Greater New York, Philadelphia. Boston, Pro vidence and other cities has been held here for the purpose of considering the relief of the foreign loldlers of the Boer army who are now prisoners of war In the hands of tho British, Much difficulty had been experienced by the various societies Interested In ascertaining the exact number and lo cation of the prisoners, but the miss ing information was supplied by a young Irishman named Mlcha-.-l F. I learn, of Westfield, Mass., who land ed in Boston from Ceylon last week. A letter from Mr. Hearn was read, giving the names of sixteen Irishmen members of the Irish brigade, now con fined at the prison camp at Ragamo, Ceylon, and recommending how money should be forwarded to defray their expenses. George H. Schrelner, who acted as secretary of the conference, said the only foreigners who remained in the prison camps were the Amer icans and the Irish. John L. Gannon of Providence, R. I., announced that he had, rome days ago, cabled 13000 to Johannesburg to pro vide for the passage of Colonel Elake and eleven other members, of the Irish brigade now there, to '.his country and tht the money was supplied by the Clan-Na-Gael, He also stated that the men at Ragamo, Coylon, mention ed by Mr. Hearn and others confined In India had been provided for and that every Irishman who had fought for the Boers, now prisoners of war, would be attended to by the C.Ian -Na-GaeL so that the other societies in sympa thy with the Boers would have an easy task in providing tor the rest of the American dtUins. The amount srent in this work by the Cian-na-Gael was over $7000 and more would be forthcoming if the necessity should arise. Former Judge Van Roen, who presided at the conference in the name of the other societies, thanked the Clan-Na-Gael for Its prompt and ef fective work and after rppolntlng a committee to attend further details the conference adoJurn'Hl. PRESIDENT VISITS THE SOUTH. LEXINGTON, Ky Sept .-President Roosevelt and party today pass ed through the states of West Virginia, Ohio. Kentucky and Tennessee. J., Sept. .-The most successful rifle tournament ever held on the New Jersey range terminated this afternoon with the close of the president's match for military cham pionship of the Unlter States. MINNEAPOLIS, Sept .-It Is offi cially stated that the railroad officials Indicted by, the federal grand Jury for manipulation of rates by means of rebates are W. R. Burk and W. H. Bennett, general freight agent of the Toledo, Ana Arbor & North Michigan Railroad, and H. F. Whlteomb, presi dent, and Burton Johnson, general freight agent of the Wisconsin Cen tral. Grace, brother of Ex-Mayor Grace, of New York, the new tenant of Battle Abbey, does not Intend that the historic pile shall continue to be a show place through the year, as heretofore, says a London dispatch to the Tribune. When the Abbey was In occupation by the late Duke and Duch ess of Cleveland, to the public yas af forded the privilege of Inspecting the interior every Tuesday, and the Hast ing towns people who have always looked upon the place more as a nat ural monument than a private" resi dence are much concerned regarding this new turn of events.
