RECEIVER ASKED TOR HAMl'KilF.O HY LACK OF CAPITAL. Bicycle Trust Seeks IteyrKtntir.rt . tlon to Tut Its Adair in ltottrr Mium. NEW YORK, Sept 1 President R, L. Coleman, of the American Bicycle Company, has issued a statement In retard to the affairs of the company, and plans under consideration for the re-organlaxtlon of the combination. It . : : ', Interest on - company debenture bonds, September 1 will not be paid at this time. - "Proieedings have been instituted looking to the appointment of a tern porary receiver of receivers tn the In terest of bond and stock holders and Application of reorganisation will be submitted at an early date for their approval. The moving reason tor this course Is that the company is and has been since Its organisation hampered by ' lack of working capital and It Is con fidently expected that the proposed re organisation will furnish the necessary funds for the proper conduct of lu business. The company is perfectly solvent and undoubtedly has an as sured future. The American Bicycle Company Is now a holding company of the stocks of the American Cycle Man ufacturing Company, International , Motor Car Company, Federat Manu facturing Company and National Bat tery Company and others. None of these four subsidized companies will be affected by the fact that the parent company has been placed in the hands of a receiver. All are in good condi tion and what assistance they need will be rendered by the directors of the American Bicycle Company or the bondholders in Interest 'There is no occasion for alarm on account of the above named consti tuent companies. It should be stated that those most largely Interested In the company's securities are working in entire accord and harmony upon the lines Indicated. The American Bicycle Company was incorporated In New Jersey in May, 1S9S. It was organize to ac quire and operate the vorks of 44 of the principal manufacturers of bicycles ! and bicycle parts In the United States. These concerns represented some 55 separate plants which, It was claimed at the time, turned out about CO per cent of all the bicycles manufactured In the countrv. The amott-it cf com mon stock authorized Is tlO.OOO.OOO. of which $17,701,500 Is outstanding. The pref tried stock Is tlO.WO.MO, f which J9.294.900 is outstanding. The stock holders voted on 'October 31, 1901, to reduce the authorized stock from $30,- nnO.OOO to the amounts shown above. The five per cent debentures amount to 9,500,000." APPOINTS RECEIVER. TRENTON. N. J., Sept. S.-Judge Kirkpatrlck has appointed Colonel Al bert A. Pope, R. Lindsay Coleman and John A. Miller receivers for the Amer ican Bicycle Company. If the president had been seeking a double of himself, he could not have come more closely to the mark than In the man selected for secretary of the navy, and while the resemblance may be very striking, there Is more possibility of his being taken for the executive than there Is of success In palming off a substitute remedy for Hostetter'a Stomach Bitters. It has become so well known as a cure for headache, nervousness, Indigestion, dyspepsia, constipation and malaria that many unscrupulous dealers will refill the bottles with a bogus article and offer It as the genuine.
