out attacking the acts or motives of

position and thereby invites the ex
ploiting of reasons for a contrary po
sition, giving the country a chance to
finally decide upon the merits of the
reasons given, and not compelling it
to choose between reason and preju
dice. There is no doubt that this tour
Is taken to be the r-PI o -tunlty for Judg
ment between Mr. Bryan and the pres
ident. The Nebraskan has just com
pleted a traverse of the same section
and has appealed to the Impulses and
prejudices of the people. The presi
dent follows, appealing to their reas
on, and the country is gratifiel by
his methods, which appeal even to
those who differ from his conclusions.
