PRESIDENT CASTRO IX COMMAND
Is Certain That He Can -Crush the
Revolution.
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, July 14,
(by boat from Barcelona). President
Castro has taken command of the Ven
ezuelan troops at Barcelona. The force
numbers about 3900 men. President
found the troops In a destitute condi
tion and has spent the time since tak
ing command n reorganizing them
and they now present a much better
appearance. President Castro asserts
that he will have crushed the revolu
tion, headed by Senor Matos, within
IS days.
Events In Venezuela, during the next
week will, It 1 believed, decide Presi
dent Castro's future. .To predict the
reilult Is Impossible. Anarchy Is re
ported to exist In many places and the
misery Is eaid to be Indescribable.
Oarupano Was evacuated yesterday by
the government forces and was Imme
diately occupied by the revolutionists.
SHIPS SENT TO VENEZUELA. ,
WASHINGTON, July 15, Minister
Bo wen considers the situation in Ven
ezuela such that at the request of the
state department, the navy depart
ment has decided to send additional
ships to La Guayra, and tomorrow on
the arrival of the Marietta at Kings
ton, Jamaica, for which place she sail
ed todny from Cape Haytien, she will
be met with orders to proceed to Gnay

BAN FRANCISCO, July 15.-The
