The Jolly delegates to the National
j Dnlrv A Pure Food Association snt
yesterday down by the sounding ea,
where they watched the shA waves
roll In, Inhaled an unexcelled quality
of ozone, and took a dip In the ocean.
Wentlwr conditoii could not possibly
have been more favorable, and the out
Ing proved about the r,iot pleasant
feature of their Western trip.
After an evening of fun In the city
the delegate arose at an early hour
yesterday morning and boarded their
Seaside train. As Dr. Shepard of South
Imkotn expressed It, the visitor found
the people the more hospital as they
came West, and they wanted fee the
extreme limit of hosukailty on the
sdlf of th . nation.
Arriving at Seaside the del"gat?
soon spread out along the beach, t nd
took In the beauties of nature. Few
of the big crod had ever oefore seen
the grand old Pacific, and the sight
was a rare on- for them. The Udics
In th- party were particularly delight
ed with the ,-asl.le trip, which doe
r.ot, by any means, infer that the gen
tl men ws-re not pleased.
A featuie of the outing wa a dip
in the ocean. The delegates sisin had
besk-ged the bath-houses and appeared
on the beach clad in bathing suite.
The crowd that watched the bathers
from the heath enjoyed a most airius-
jing scene, as those who remember tnelr
first sea bath will readily appreciate.
The few experienced bathers had
great sport with the novices, who
were put through the stunt of " duck
ing." No Inconsiderable quantity of
jsalt water was swallowed by the vis
itors, but all enjoyed tnelr oaui.
There was no program arranged at
the beach ond the delegate were left
to amuse themselves as best they
could. They succeded admirably, end
when It came time lo board the train
for home there wa gene: at regret
that the day had passed so quickly.
The visitors were dined at Locksley
Hall. Mr. Carlyle doing everything
in her power to make matters agree
able for her guests. The dinpig rooms
were prettily decorated and a fine din
ner wan served. The ravenous appe
tites cultivated by the visitors since
their arrival on the coa-t were the
more acute at Seaside, and all uid
Justice to Mrs. Carlyle's dinner.
The dairy and food commissioners
have a habit of holding sessions wher
ever they go, and a meeting took place
fat Seaside. The executive committee
made a partial ivport, but the other
committees which wer? expected to re
port were unable to do so. The meet
ing was a brief one and nothing of
public Interest transpired.
The visitors were at the beach from
9 o'clock until S In the afternoon, and
every minute of the time was en
Joyed. They t me back on the regu
lar train, whi.'h arrived at 5:,W and
proceeded on 1t way to Portland at
6:10. The local reception committee
had a delegation at the depot :o hid
farewell lo the parting guests, Hfco
wi re loud In their praise of the treat- !
rr.ent accorded them. They said ihey !
had never been treated better i t thetr
lives, and all vow and declare they
will come to the cods', ag.tln whenever
the opportunity presents Its If,
After a meeting at Portland on Mon
day, the visitors will go te Oorvallls,
where they will visit ihe agricultural
college and look Into the course of
study at that Inst'tutl m. Vhey will
depart for the East ihe last (f the

very favorable Impression, and were
regarded as the joillet crowd that
had ever been the iets of the peo
