through Tnter den Linden he was
easily xwoftnlied by his resemblance
to the pictures and cartoons with
which the German public have been
almost daily entertained.
; At one of tne news stands Mr. Mor

showing him laying at full length over

his hands to England and Germany.
Asked about his meeting wflth the
Kaiser, Mr. Morgan said: "Ism very

about Ore kaiser. He was exceedingly
courteous to us. He is a great man for
fact."

The kaiseT Is fully acquainted wirh the
relation between Hie trans-Atlantic

has formed and the German steamship

would have led the Meteor in for the

'I have no doubt the kaiser 'is be
coming more and more popular, not
with the argument that an Incivase
only among his own people, but In
other countries. When Prince Henry
visited tihe I'nlted States, a member of
the New York Yacht club decided to
make a return by coming over to the

attendance of an Increasing number of
American yachts at Kiel is now cer

for Mr. Morgan. I think he believes

L-XST DAY FOR OOLF PLAYERS.
XEW YORK, July S.-This is the
last day on which entries v, IP be made
for the national amateur golf cham
pionship to be play?d t Chicago. Al
though Secretary Ballot r'-f'ies to dis
close the names of the or ibable im-
pctltors, it Is believed the list this yar
will be the largest ever received. The
fact that the qualifying round lias been
reduced from ?S, to IS hnls is one of
the reasons given for this, but equally
important is the decision to allow i4
instead of 32 men to qualify. The en
tries include players from all parts
of the country. It is Paid by those
who have an Intimate knowlei ;e of the
list that the leld will be he most
representative ever gathered on a
championship golf course.
Last year there were 141 emrje of
whom 139 started and 113 returned
complete cards. Travis, the present
rihamplon, will, of course, be there.
Others of the eastern contingent will
