dent of Scranton, Pa., is In the city
on a brief visit. Mr. Schlmpff once
owned a large brewery in Scranton,
but sold out the business some time
ago, and lately had been engaged In
the manage neot of local concerns. He
states thiol the strike of the coal min
ers has completely tied up business
of all kinds In Scranton, which la In
the heart ef the district principally
affected by the differences between
the employers and the minora. So wide
spread. Indeed, has been the tie-up
that Mr. Schlmpff took advantage of

make a Western trip. He Is rery
much In love with this part of the

will endeivor to enjoin the issuing of

John Stewart, the watchman on the
steamer Telephone ,ia very proud of
the boat of which he is custodian. In
fact, he is ho proud of her that when
a new daughter was added o his fam
ily a short time since, he named her
Telephone Hazel Stewart, after the
old boat. The Telephone "has not been
In commission for some time, but Is
lying at the foot of Jfferwn street,
awaiting the company's pleasure to re
store her to her once proud position
on the river. At one time she was
the fastest boat on the Aatorla run,
and Miss Stewart should be honored
to boar the name of the ex-queen of
the Columbia. When the news of the
christening reached the ears of L. B.
Seley he was pleased 'beyond expres
sion. The ever-generous sieamboat
