LONt)OK WENT VTHjO. White London went temporarily mad tn Saturnalia of rejoicing- over the new from South Africa, a tele imphlc nerve system of empire throbbed responsively from Canada j and Jamaica and from India and Australia in the east came messages of congratulations and reports of lo cal rejoicings. Gibraltar, Malta, Cairo. Bombay and Melbourne each In turn recorded the enthusiasm -ith which the news of peace was received. The announcement of petto in South Africa was celebrated In London to night with wild repetition of the Mafe king celelnttion Hundreds of thou sands of people surged ttirough the streets of London from Whltechapel to Buckingham pa'aoe, but never at any time Hid the crowd equal those which orlglnataed the Verb "to maffick." Tonight there was a tremendous noise tn the street, pandemonium of horns and cheers and coarse Jests of the costers; hut the abandon which marked sinrouncement of reHef of Ma feking and Tiadysmlth was lacking. Very serious undercurrent of discon tent among tire Irish nobles showed that London did not show the same symptoms of rejoicing as on Mafeking night In some quarters comment on the " Peace at Honor" ending of the war was that Great Britain has peace and Boers have all the honor. Several members of the house of commons free ly admit that peace In South Africa might ha.' ? en secured a year earlier tnd upon better terms had not the BHHsh government been so obdurate, CLOSING TUB WAU. When Rheumatism settles in the bones and muscles of the legs, it is safe to predict that the victim will eventually become helpless and crutch-bound. The corrosive, irritating matter that is dcjiosited in the joints and muscles causes the most intense pain, the knees and ankles swell, and when the natural oils and fluids that lubricate these parts are completely destroyed the joints become locked and the muscles drawn and stiff, and crutches a necessity. The acid poisonslhat produce rheumatic pains form in the blood, and are distributed through the system, and lodged in the anus, shoulders, hands, back ami feet, or other parts of the body resulting often in total disability.
