The convention. Is said to be the largest congress of workmen ever held in this country. Organlaxtlon, settle ment of questions Involving contested eats, and reading of the annual re port of the president, secretary and treasurer took up the entire session of the contention. During the day there was one surprise sprung on the delegates and one important decision made. The surprise came in the form of an objection to the seating of the Vnited Mineworkers delegates because of alleged arrears In their per capita tax. The motion was overruled. An Important question decided related to the contested seat of ft delegate from the central labor union of Richmond, Va., which body refused to admit ne gro workmen to its organisation. The dispute was adjusted by seating the central labor union representative and Instructing the executive board of the American Federation of Labor to form strong central union for color! men. CRACK GOLFERS. Timing to California to Fill Engage ments on Coast Links. CIHCAGO. Dec. S. Ex-Champion Willie Smith. David Hell. Alexander Smith. Ernest Martin and Alexander Martin, golf professionals, left last night for California to fill engagements on the Pacific coast links. Willie Smith will locate at Pasadena and will have Baxter as his assistant and club maker. David Bell will have charge of the course at Catalina Isl and and Martin will go to the Los An- I geles Country Club as club maker. Alexander Smith, who for the last few months of the season was at the I Nassau Country Club, will return to his old position at Coronado Reach.
