THE UNION LABEL.
A Biltlmor clergyman In a recent
sermon endorsed the union label In the
following eloquent words:
nnai can ue more sacreti, more
holy, or more detterving of the rever
ence of m -n r angels than the union
lab"!, which signifies that human life
h is been more highly valued In the pro
duction of commodlti-s than the mere
profits sought for by greed?
"Th- label is an emblem of Justice,
"f fraternity, of humanity. When you
find u label on a garment, or a box of
cigars, or a loaf of bread, or a piece of
iirir.tlng. you can be sura that neither
was ma le In a sweat-shop. That bo
little children's fingers wer? compelled
to sew, or sort tobacco In the hours of
the night int-nded for cliiljlsh sleep.
When vou s..e this labi on any com
modity, -u can buy It with a clear con
siicnce, knowing that In doing so you
ar? not becoming partner to an Insti
tution that d -grades humanity for pri
vate profit. You can sleep soundly also,
and not b: worried with thoughts of
typhus fever, smallpox or leprosy, which
are so oft-n scattered broadcast from
Chinese opium Joints, penitentiary con
viitv cUs and ten-ment sweat-shops.
hre th most degraded specimens of
humanity put their life's blood Into
marketable goods, from which the poor,
unsuspecting public suffers all manner
of foul and loathsome diseases.
"The union label is a religious enu
blem. Tt is a religious act to buy goods
to which this label is attached, an act
bles.-ed on earth and honored in heav
en, while It Is a sin to buy a cigar.

all of you, as you leave this house to

you will always know that the favorite
