cision a though moved by soin hid
den power. No Incident of any kind
occurred to mar its stately beauty.
There was no accident of any sort
ashore or alloat. The w. at her was tra
ditional "iiu-en's weather." The iU"tn
of the seas was earned across the wat
ers to the accompaniment of mir.ute
guna and military music, a picture
which will live in history.
If the elements should prove equally
favorable today, which at the moment !
of cabling (5 a. m.) seems somewhat
doubtful, the millions of the metropo
lis will render their even grander mili
tary tribute to the queen, who desired
to be buried as & soldier's daughter.
Thousands of troops are now marching
in London to breakfa-st hurriedly, pre
loratory to taking their places in the
line of march.
With this peaceful military invasion
is an equally large civilian invasion
from the provinces and abroad. It was
next lo impossible last evening to ob
tain a bedroom In any west end hotel,
and until quite a late hour visitors were
eagerly searching all along the route
for window and seats, held at exorbi
tant prices, to view the procwion.
The body of the queen lies on the
yacht Alberta in Portsmouth harb r.
When the funeral fleet reached Ports
mouth a guard of a hundred marines
marched on board. During the night
the quarterdeck where the ber rests
was lighted by electricity,
made in writing by Oo. D. Gear, of
Hawaii, who submitted letter purport
ing to be copies fjf letter written by
Wilcox to Filipino offlc.al.
The alleged letter are of a highly sen
sational character. One of the letters
mhi to have been written 'by Wilcox I
dated Honolulu, January 31, 1890, and
addressed to Dr. Joseph Loaado, Cap
tain Marti Burgos and B- nor J. Luna,
and say:
"Mr. will be a useful ally to tight
for the eause of the Filipinos.
"I have already made up my mind to
Join with you In your country against
the Americans In case they lnit upon
Ignoring the right and Justice of your
(,'iuse. Tell General Aguinaldo I am
already giving my service fur your
country and I am ready to obey orders
to ?o to your country and fight for
the Independence of your people and
country at any moment."
The letter bear the alleged signature
of Kobert Wilcox. Another letter, dated
Honolulu, March 8. 1S9S, ay:
"I am thinking of going to the Phil
ippine islands and giving my assist
ance to Aguinaldo against the invid
erg. hypocritical Yankees, carpet-bag
politicians."
Wilcox declined to make an extended
answer to the charge tiled by Gear.
He fays he ha no fear of the charge
made. He admits that he wrote in
ters to Dr. Losado, Captain Burgoe,
Senor Luna and C. Ca-sar M irena, an
Italian of this city, whom he had
known while the latter was in Hawaii.
Gear claims that the letter and utter
ance of Wilcox are trea-ionable and
petitions congress to unseat him. The
petition also says that Wilcox is guilty
of blgimy.
