A PUUKT SOUND VIEW.
Seattle Trade Register.
Tbe extensive correspondence In the
Oregon newspapers relative to the need
f making a common po'nt rate for As
toria, and Portland's objection thereto,
eems to be mainly founded on the
conviction that Puget sound ports, es
pecially Seattle, enjoy such natural
and acquired commercial advantages as
bid fair to permanently secure the
great bulk of the Pacific commerce. As
toria seems to be gaining ground In
the discussion, and also some able
friends In Portland. The Sound is an
impartial observer of thlJ contention in
hit sister state, as we believe to grant
all Astoria contends for would not
weaken the commanding position Puget
aouDd holds and wilt improve both in
trans-Pacific and trans-continental
commerce.
