Th only caae before Judge Nelson In
police court yesterday afternoon wa
that of R. M. (ioston, who waa charg
ed with vlolitlng city ordinance No.
ITS!, providing for the prevention and
removal of obstruction from the street
and sidewalks. The complaint wa en

ants. Mr. Gaston hod purchased some
ten or twelve cords of wood and had
tilled It up In front of hi residence at
th corner of Twelfth and Exchange
street and between Heventh and
Twelfth strets. and having no other
place to put the wood, built a shed
over It to protect It from the weather.
Mr. Gaston wa notified to remove the
ahed and wood and failed to do so a
he could not make necessary arrange
ments to have a shed built. It waa
thought by Mr. Gaston that the action
waa a aplte one on the part of Mr.
Kearney, a there had been wane prev
ious feeling between the two men, but
the fart brought out before the court
showed that It wa only with much
n-luctanc and In simple performance
of hi duty th.it he waa Induced by the
other complainant to act In the mat
ter. The Judge (utpended sentence till
Friday of thl week at 3 p. in.. In
order to give Mr. Gaston time to re
move the obstruction.

JAPS RETIRE.
Sumner haa settled the Asiatic labor
question In a manner peculiar unto It
self and strongly characteristic of the
method Tacoma adopted in 1SS5 to In
duce an emigrant movement among it
Chinese residents. Incidentally Sumner
notined the two employers of the for
elgner. both prominent Democratic
leaders of that section of Pierce coun
ty, that they must not employ Japs.
A large delegation of Sumner cltixen
waited on the Jnps, who were living
n a coupie or small cabin, and told
them to scatter. They were given a
limited time to gather their effects and
hen told to move. The Asiatics dis
appeared over the hill in disorder and
Sumner went back to bed.
