THE TWENTIETH CENTCItT.
When a few mon'ha more shall I ave
passed we will then stand at the very
threshold of the twentieth century, and
the nineteenth will be a thing of the
past. It will, however, be known as the
century of Invention and discovery,
and among some of the greatest of
these we can truthfully mention Hos
teller's Stomach Bitters, the celebrated
remedy for all ailments arising from a
disordered stomach, such as dyspepsia.
Indigestion, flatulency, constipation
and biliousness. It hac been one of
the greatest blessings to mankind dur
ing the past fifty years as a health
builder. Many physicians recommend
It. Take their advice, try a bottle and
be convinced, but be sure to get the
genuine with a private revenue stamp
over the neck of the bottle.
BUMMER RESORTS.
"To the mountains our people In In
creasing numbers yearly look for thoee
days of relaxation and recreation nec
essary to maintain the human ma
chine In fair working conlltlon. The
languorous sloth of the seashore proves
very seductive while it lasts, but
many have decided that the an
nual outing should provide not only
radical change of air and surround
ings, but also such stimulation of
flagging energies as will provide brawn
and vigor for the return to labor. For
this they urge the mountain climb and
ramble, the balsam of the mountain
pines, and the clear, unadulterated
mountain air.
"In this direction the Shasta Route
now affords a wealth of attractions.
The entire line of road from Ashland
to Redding Is studded with charming
and accessible hotels and camps, where
are cheer and comfort and healing; at
reasonable cost, and where you can
hunt, fish, ride, loaf, or play with
equal facility.
"Or if you look for healing waters,
none better can be found, hot or cold,
than the springs of Ashland, Colestln,
Anderson, Bartlctt, Byron and Paso
nobles.
"Before visiting Europe, the people of
the Northwest should see the glories
of Yosemlte valley, and the wondrous
groves of. Mariposa and Calaveras;
the Parisians are likely to make in

EXCITING RACE TO DAWSON.
Flora Lands Passengers on the Dock
While Florence Is Tying Up.
According to Iai news from Daw
son the river steamer Flora had a hard
struggle for the honor of being the
first steamer Into Dawson from the up
pT river head this spring. The steam
er Florence B. left Lebarge at the same
time, and the two steamers had a
great race for Dawson. The contest
was a warm one all the way down,
and the finish was close and exciting.
It was on May it that the two steam,
era reached Dawson, according to a
report In the Tacoma Ledger. The
Flora as the first to appear around
the bend In the river, and all of Daw
son gathered on the river bank, gave
a cheer. The Flora was throwing out
a great cloud of smoke and ateamlng
at a furious rate. Immediately be
hind her, coming like a racing yacht,
with a bone In her teeth, was the Flor
ence S.
Opposite the Klondike river the Flor
ence S. passed tne Flora and cut a
terrific pace down the stream, running
as high as fifteen knots an hour.
Meanwhile, the Flora kept to the esst
shore and made a short turn, while
the Florence S. made a wide one. The
Florence 8. slipped In quickly to the
wharf, but the men on the dock missed
the line thrown tbem, and this delay
causd her to lose the race. The Flora
made for the S. Y. T. wharf, tied up
In a trice and landed a passenger amid
the cheers of the crowd that gathered
to see the finish of an exciting race.
