Smith of Portland arrived in Ashland this week to make an extended visit at the home of their daughter, Mrs, W. J. Wallace, on "Mountain avenue. Mrs. E. B.Adamson of Talent has secured the residence of Mrs. G. H. Way in Laurel street and will occu py it during the coming winter In order to put her daughters in the Ashland high school. She expects to come here about September 6. Dr. Bertha Sawyer left Wednes day evening for Chicago where she will enter the hospitals there for post-graduate clinic work. She will go by way of the Grand Trunk line and will be gone until November 1. and will visit at her old home in Kansas before returning. Miss Anna Hargrove, who has been spending several weeks in Portland, where she had gone to buy her fall stock of millinery, has returned home. Miss Hargrove had accom panied her sister, Mrs. R. P. Neil, to that city, where the latter entered hospital to undergo an operation. The latter is much improved and expects to be able to return home shortly. Miss Florence Pool, couuty home demonstration agent, who has been dovoting considerable time lately to teaching how to make dress, forms of plaster paris at neighborhood gatherings, held such a meeting at the home of Mrs. Lennox in the Val ley View district Wednesday after noon. A fine girl baby was born to Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Jacobs of Talent, August 23. The little lady tipped the beam at 7Vi pounds and Is live ly as a cricket. Her name is Alice Caroline and her parents are about the happiest people to found in this "neck of the woods" Just now. Mrs. Hattie Lynch of Ashland is special nurse, and as usual when sue is tn the job everything is going smoothly, Librarian Accepts State Position Miss Maude' F. Barnes, who has been the librarian In the Grants Pass public library since Its estab liBhment in 1914, has accepted a po sition in the Oregon state library at an increase In salary and will go to Salem as soon as her place here can be filled. Miss Barnes will be missed by a host of friends and by the patrons of the library. She taai worked untiringly to build up the 11 brary here and to interest the peo ple of Grants Pass and of the county in the use of books and magazines. Grants Pass Courier.
