GOLD HILL WOMAN DIED IX THIS CITY Mrs. Myrtle Day of Gold Hill died In Ashland last Friday. The body was taken tb her home Sunday where burial was made. Mrs. Day was a former well known Ashland young woman, when as Miss Myrtle Blackburn, she was a clerk in Beebe c Kinney s Btore nere, ana was highly esteemed by a large number of friends. Lewis, one of the men. wild have organized 75,000 Methodist 5- mmuie men in America within a few months, will speak at the First Methodist Episcopal church In Ash land this Tuesday evening at 8:00 o'clock. Dr. Lewis one of the notable flguers in Methodism. When only a young preacher, earning $750.00 a year, Uo was offered a salary of $5,000 a year to manage a large and successful firm. Even when he was a student In collego, a business man offered to finance him and divide profits. Texas nominated him for gover non but he was defeated. As a preacher, lie has filled some of the best known Methodist charges In the country and everywhere commands the highest respect among business men as well as with those with whom he is associated In church work. Dr. Lewis is one of the best all around authorities on the $105,000, 000 Methodist centenary. When speaking here, he will explain the purport of the ggantlc movement to evangelize apid, rebuild the world. There Is no aspect of the many af fecting the Methodist centenary with which Dr. Lewis is not person ally concerned. While he has some timed been styled a Sensational speaker because of the fact that newspapers have often paid great attention to his sermons, yet Dr. Lewis makes an earnest, appealing figure in the pulpit. A. work for nearly a yean Dr. Preston was decoratfcd by the British government for his act of heroism at Withering Domes, Eng land, when he attempted to rescue an English flight captain from a burning air craft, In which his unl form waa literally burned from his )ack and a part of his nose torn' off by an exploding shjell, He was also cited for bravery on another occasion when he was badly burned in at tempting to release a pilot who was strapped in a burning plane at the flying field at BIrcham, England. Dr. Preston was a former pastor of tli Osagje, Iowa, Congregational church with which Mr. and Mrs. K B. Reynolds of this city were asso ciated several years ago.
