A wedding ceremony by long dis tance telephone was an unique oc currence '& Ashland last Sunday, when Miss Rose Thomas, one of the well known and popular teachers of the city schools, became the wife of Rolert Throne, who Is located in Denver, Colo. The ceremony took place between 10 and 10 30 Sunday evening, when the bride accompan ied by her brother. A. W. Thomas and wife aa witnesses, went to the local telephone exchange. The groom In Dsnver put the call thru, and Rev.. James Thomas, a Denver clergyman accompanying him, read the service over the telephone In the presence of necessary witnesses. The service was distinctly heard in ! Ashland even by the witnesses. The .bride Is the daughter of A. W. Thom as of 993 Boulevard, and has been a memler of the Hawthorne school faculty for a number of years where i she taught the fifth grade. She has a host of friends In this city who are , much Interested in her romantic and ! novel wedding. Mr. Throne has re- , cfntly been discharged from the ,'army service, and is now in the em ploy of a large electrical company in Denver, Colo. Mrs. Thorne will fin ish hec term of school, after which ,she expects to join her husband in Di?nver. Ilnnqurt Attract Interest. The Civic Club banquet and theatre party next Friday evening Is attracting considerable attention among the women. of Ashland, who are planning on making of this event one of the leading social af fairs of tle season. The banquet will be given in the Hotel Austin at 6 o'clock Friday (evening, to be fol lowed by a theatre party at the Vin- lng, to witness Harold Lockwood in "A Great Romance." The marriage of Miss Joan Ander son and Ceorgfe Cates of Medford will occur tomorrow. Miss Ander son Is the daughter of Bert Ander son, a prominent business man, and n!pce' of Mrs. S. S. Smith,. Mr. Gates is the son of Mayor Gates and has recently returned from overseas service. They have many friends in Ashland who wish them happiness. Demonstration in Cooking. Miss Anni McCormlck, county home demonstrator, will be at the lifome of Mrst Pi. L. Ashcraft on Scenic Drive, Wednesday, April 30, where she will give a demonstration of cooking for young children. This meeting is called for 2 o'clock In the afternoon and all are asked to be present. Wednesday Club Postponed The date of the Wednesday After noon Club has been changed from to morrow, the time of the usual fort nightly mestlng to Wednes day, April 30. On that date the club will meet at the home of Mrs. W. M. Polcy on Gresham street. Assisting the hostess will be Mrs. Brown. lOOth ' Anniversary Celebration. The Odd Fellows and Rllekahs of Ashland and vicinity will celebrate the Centennial of the order on Tues day evening, April 29th, at their hall on .Xorth Main street. UNIVERSITY GIVEN HTATl'E FOR CAMPUS University of Oregon, Eugene. "The Pioneer," an heroic sized statuo of a subject of that type, 9 feet high, has arrived on the campus from Rhode Island. The statue has been . expected for nearly a month and will probably be set up before the end of next .week. A large boulder has been picked out up on the Mo Kenzie river and will he brought to the campus' and the statue placed on it.- A. Phlmester Proctor, a sculptor of Portland, made the monument and Josenh X. Teal,' also of Portland, gave it to tne University in memory, of his pioneer father. The statue is to be placed mid-way between the library and Friendly hall, the men's dormitory.
