According to a rumor based on what is said to be good authority, one of the Coos Bay sawmills that is fur nishing ship timbers and lumber is likely to be taken over by the govern ment for operation. The story says the timbers are not coining from the mill as fast as contracts require and the delay has caused a complaint to be entered to Chairman Pillshury, at San Francisco. The rumor could net be verified, although it is generally credited. A short time ago officials who were connected with the govern ment hinted that the sawmills might lie speeded up to prqvide against shortages In lumber for ships, and double and perhaps treble shifts might be installed. If the senate In vestigation now on in Washington does not Interfere too seriously with the Emergency Fleet Corporation or ganization it is possible the Coos Bay mills may all le running at least on double time by the first of January, or shortly thereafter. The word is out, and given credit, that everything in the way of construction is lagging, and material changes may be looked for everywhere, in vicinities wher? fir and spruce timbers are being cut. ''Knitting nerves" Is the latest af fliction that has struck the feminine portion of tho country, caused by concentration of mind and hand on the needles. According to a dispatcli from New York, thousands of women In that city are afflicted with this war-time complaint. Dr. I,ou!s P.. Welzmiller, physical director of tho West Side Y. M. C. A., says there it liable to be an epidemic of "knitting nerve" unless knitters learn to knit properly. He offers the following ad vice as a remedy: "Don't hunch over your knitting. Sit upright, and when your mind tells i you you have kniued enough, quit. There are 3C3 days In a year and you can't finish a sweater In a day, no matter how much you love a sol dier or a sailor." Dr. C. P. Christenson, president of the Psychological Research Society, concurred In the predictions of Dr. Welzmiller. He attributed the nerve scourge to the failure of womenfolk to comprehend the vibrations cf nerve laws. He continued: "The women are overworking themselves. Knitting has become a craze. Nerves cannot stand this strain." Mr. Hoover has no intention of put ting the ban on sugar, All he ash jis that you use sugar In your coffeo instead of coffee In your sugar.
