Excitement was at a high pitch last evening about dusk when the operator at Gold Hill received the word that a runaway car from the Ashland yards was rap idly approaching his station. He had barely time to intercept a freight pulling out from' the yards towards the approaching car, and inform the section boss, who was near, who opened the switch leading onto a sidetrack and set th,e derailer, when the runaway came thundering Into the station. It proved to be a freight car heavily laden with hay, which sped down through the valley at the rate of from 30 to 40 miles per hour, until it arrived at the winding track leading along the river between Gold Ray and Gold Hill and the upgrade leading into Gold Hill, which checked Its mighty momentum.
