Announcement have been received of the engagement of Claire Beebo and Miss M.ric Abbott. Both of these young people were Ashland high school graduates Mr. Beebe of the class cf 1910 and Miss Abbott of 1912. Mr. Beebe is tho son of W. B Beebe of this city p.nd Is a mining engineer recently graduated from the Vnivers'ty of California. Miss Ab bott's home 13 in Minneapolis, Minn. Mrs Btreet, Shower. W. Walker of 393 Beacn soon to leave who expects ABhland for her former home at Cot tatge Grove, Ore., was gladly sur prised on Tuesday afternoon by number of her lady friends coming In to visit her, and In the meantime prise to Mrs. Walker. When the first ladies arrived she thought Jt just a friendly call, but when tho second installment came her face was a study and she didn't quite under stand why so many ladies shoull call on the same afternoon. When her daughter, who knew of the show er, arrived from school their smil ing countenances and sundry pack ages they carried gave the who?l th'ng away. The afternoon was spent In fancy work and visiting and a general good time, after which dainty refresh ments were served. The ladles on departing wished Mrs. Walker much good fortune In her Cottage Grove home, where her husband is engaged in business at tho present time. I. O. O. F. and Rebokahs to Meet at Eugene. The I. 0. O. P. and Rebekahs will hold their annual assembly at Eu gene, opening on May 22 and con cluding May 26. An unusually en tertaining program has been prepared and visitors are expected from all parts of the state. Agent A. J. Brown's class at Bellcvlew Sunday school spent a very enjoyable day at Warner Springs. They started at 9 o'clock and reached their destination nt about tho dinner hour. After a boun tiful -epast of all the good "eats" that accompany a picnic, the bunch visited the springs. In spite of tho hard rain on the homeward trip, everyone kept fairly dry In the large wagon which conveyed them. The party consisted of Mrs. C. K. Brown, Marjorle Flfleld, Mesdames O. L. Young and 3, Young Gnetss of Honor. "Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. M. Barber the Upper anite Embroidery Club gave a farewell party to Mrs. O. L. Young, who leaves for an extended visit to her son in Denver, and Mrs. J. G. Young, who, after spending two winters In Ashland, returns with re stored health to her home In Ho quiam, Wash. Music, both Instru mental and vocal, was by Mrs. Joe Alnut, Mrs. Carl Loveland and Mrs. L. B.- .Nicholson. A seed contest proved very Interesting, but when the "historian," appointed by the presi dent, proceeded to record the ro mances and matrimonial ventures of the club members, they all laughed until they forgot their troubles. A delicious salad course with hot cof fee, followed with home-made can dies, proved quite satisfying. There is not, in Ashland or any other town, a community where love and good-fellowship hold forth to a greater extent than In this Upper Granite neighborhood. The follow ing poem, written by Mrs. George Halley, was presented each of the guests of honor: There's a place In the mountains so fair Where the forest and fruit trees caress; There the mineral waters so rare Bring to needy ones health and success. In this town runs a picturesque street Upper Gran'te its name has been found; Artist nature has made it complete, And the deer and the coyote abound. Here the flower of true friendship Is grown In an atmosphere loyal and kind; Friend and stranger alike do we own, Striving always their heart-strings to bind. When tho outer world calls some away To fill places more stirring than this, May the walls of their memory each day Bring them p'ctures of Granite street bliss. an effort Is being mado to assure the attendance of every Ashland high school graduate In the valley; Deco ration, Misses Ruth Whitnoy, Mar garet Hodgson, Mrs. Harvey Ling, Meredith Beaver and Harold Simp son; refreshments, Mrs. Elsie Church' man and Fred Engle; program, Miss es Luclle Barber,, Helen Moore and Esther Whlted, Lynn Mowat and Ho mer Billings; reception, Mrs. Perozzi, Misses France Kleinhammer, Mary Welsenburger, Thelma Throne, Lil Han Patterson, Eva Poley and John Endera. The first named of each committee will act as chairman. Annual Parish Meeting. The annual meeting of Trinity Episcopal church was held in the Par ish House on Monday evening, May 7, the Rev. P. K. Hammond presiding. Reports were read by officers of the different church organization', which showed that tho church had prospered during the year. Election of officers followed for the ensuing year: Senior warden, Mr. S. Pennls ton; junior warden, Mr. W. C. Bart- Capitola ges; clerk, Mr. Clark Bush; treasurer. Teacup Club. The Teacup Club held one of the most enjoyable meetings of the sea son at the home of Mrs. C. W. Chat tin. Election of officers was held at this time, Mrs. Milllcan being elected president, Mrs C. B. Wolf vice-president, Mrs. J. V. Miller secretary and treasurer. The hostess was assisted by Mrs. George Kramer1, Mrs. C. Miller, Mrs. W. J. Dougherty and Mrs. Mather. Refreshments of most delicious cakes and Ice cream were served. v. it. c. Mrs. Edna Buck of 144 Garfield street, assisted by Mesdames Don Smith, Jennings, Heer and Harrell, entertained tho Woman's Relief Corps Monday. Other members pres ent were Mesdames Peters, Palmer, Stacy, Coder, Morgan, Mathes, Por ter, Mattingly, Ganlard, Rouse, How ard, Swingle, Carlton, Allen, Sayle, Spindler, Rose and Thomas. Guests were Mrs. J. W. Hasklns, Mrs. J. V. Swingle, Mrs. J. V. Wright, Mrs. A. H. Peachey, Mrs. Dora Young and Mrs. O. T. West, Civic Club. The Civic Improvement Club met Tuesday afternoon with its usual full attendance. A steadily increasing membership speaks well for the pop ularity and extended activities of this assoclat'on. The report of the recent Country Store sale gave the gratifying result of nearly one hundred dollars above all expenses. Fifty dollars of this sum was promptly voted for the ben efit of the local Red Cross chapter. Following the regular order of bus iness, Mrs Wolf rendered two enjoy able song3 and Mrs. Hedwig gave flue dramatic expression to hor entertain ing poetical rehearsal. The social hour afforded opportunity for friend ly greetings to the new members, pleasant converse and a generous In dulgence In the delicious fruit punch served by Mrs. Gillette. Orres was host to eight young men of the city at a dinner at Hotel Austin last evening in honor of Wal ter Phillips, who left this morning for San Francisco to enter the officers' train'ng school. Those who enjoyed the excellent "feed" and hours of good-fellowship were: Messrs. Wal ter Ph'llipS, John Enders, Andrew McGee, Neal Shlnn, Jean Hastipgs, Ed Dews, Kenneth McWilliams.
