Mrs. Margaret J. Beckett Is spend
ing the holidays with her daughter,
Mrs. Cassius L. Miller, while en route
from Columbus, Ohio, to her home
in Los Angeles, Cal.
Mr. and Mrs. John Dickson of Lin
coln, Neb., are visiting at the Fraley
home. Mr. Dickson Is a cousin of
Mrs. Fraley. They will vlsifln Ash
land until after Christmas. They are
making a leisurely tour of the Pa
cific coast and will go from here to
San Francisco and then on to south
ern California.
Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Carter left
Tuesday for Texas, where they will
make an extended Visit with relatives.

row of the death of their son Willie.

II. L. Gilkey of Grants Pass, well
known in this city, has resigned the
cashlership of the First National
Bank of Southern Oregon at that
place and will devote his energies to
some outdoor work on account of his
health. George Lundburg, also well
known here, succeeds Mr. Gilkey.
Mr. and Mrs. V E. Disney have
purchased the Victor Payne place
east, of the city. Ten acres of land
and a residence is included In the
deal, which was negotiated by the
Beaver Realty Company. Mr. Disney
Is a Southern Pacific carpenter. The
Payne family are now in Oklahoma.
The Aahland Hotel restaurant,
which Is building up a deserved repu
tation by its excellent service nd de
licious home cooking, will serve a
Christmas dinner Monday which wlH
be hard to beat. Turkey 'dinner with
all the fixings will be servi.l for 50
cents. Chicken dinner wllh every

are buying horses In southern Oregon
this week, upon rush orders, and
there ts a report that the poor beasts
are needed for the coming spring
drive, with which Germany Is ex
pected to be crushed. One provision
of all the sales is that the horses be

through Ashland last week, returning
from California to their home in
Portland. They stopped over In

The fame of Butler's chocolates Is
spreading. An out-of-town man wan
dered back into the candy factory
the other day, and after watching
operations for a few minutes asked
if Mr. Butler could do him up a
"little order." Mr. Butler replied,
"Sure thing, just as soon as I finish
this little batch," expecting an order
for a couple of pounds. The visitor
left an order for seventy-five boxes
of candy which he is going to give
to seventy-five fortunate friends as
Christmas remembrances.
