discharge the duties of that office in
a highly satisfactory manner, and
by reason of his experience and abil
ity the cost of the office Bhould be
reduced to the lowest figure In the
history of Jackson county.
It is universally conceded that the
sheriff's office is being conducted In
a highly efficient manner, and the
election of Mr. Wilson means a con
tinuance in Its present condition.

Court, filed March 4, 1916, contains
the following:
"All of these collections have been
promptly deposited In the treasury.
The sheriff is observing the law re
quiring all delinquent taxes to be
brought forward'on the current rolls
and entered on the tax receipts. This
Is a huge task, and they are doing
the work as diligently as possible
during the stress of a heavy tax col

Tho sheriff's offico r.t Jacksonville
was just heaving a sigh of relief last
Thursday when tho Record editor
stepped into it. ' For the ten days
previous it had been one of the busi
est places in tho county. Five men
had been taking care of the first pay
ment of taxes a job which iu for
mer years kept as high as thirteen
people busy. The lessened num
ber of helpers Is largely due to
the efforts of Deputies Harper and
Curly Wilson to establish system.
The whole matter was summed up
by the expert who recently audited
the county books wheu ho said:
"The sheriff's offico is administered
with no bustle nor confusion. Only
expert men are employed In the tax
collections and other departments. 1
have scanned every tax collection and
every fee coming into tho office and
find nothing out of place nor en
tered wrongly. This is au unusually
good record."
