Wyant were conducted from the 'home of his son, Louis Wyant, at 868 A street, on Wednesday, October 18,! 1916, Rev. H. A. Carnahan, D. D., pastor, officiating, Interment was made in the Stevens cemetery at Talent. Benjamin Thomas Wyant was born August 6 1844, in Brown county, In diana, and died -at Ashland October 15, 1916, at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 9 days. Four sons, and seven daughters mourn the loss of this loved one, but because of unavoidable circum stances one son and two daughters could not be present. Mr. Wyant was a pioneer of Ore gon, having crossed the plains from Keokuk county, Iowa, In 1862, driv ing six yoke of oxen, at the age of 19 years. He followed mining as an occupa tion, his fields of labor being In var ied locations In Idaho, Nevada and Oregon. In 1862 he drove a freight team from Boise, Idaho, to Jackson creek, from there to Elko, New, and later to Silver City, Idaho. He came to Portland In 1865 and was married to Lewlsle Kllse in 1871. The following year his wife1 departed this life, leaving Mr. Wyant and a little son, Lewis, only eight days old. He was later married to Mellnda Jane Traylor. Twelve chil dren blessed their union. Three of the little children who attend the Montessori school having birthdays which came in the same week, Mrs. M. L. Newland, teacher of the school, gave a party for the children of the sehool in the park Monday. The affair was In the form of a birthday luncheon and was greatly enjoyed by the little folks. Those whose birthdays occasioned the affair were Max Gulley, Eunice Muller and Ellen Galey. The other little guests were Auten Bush, David Blede, Elston Gregg, Sandy McGov ern, Margaret Churchman, Virginia Rose and Ruth Gardner. The song recital at the Methodist church' Friday evening, November 3, Is given with the hope of stimulating musical Interest in the community.
