District Federation Will Meet at 'rnntN Puns. At the executive board meeting of the First Southern Oregon District Federation of Women's Clubs, held at Rogue River Tuesday, it was de cided to hold the annual convention t Grants Pass April 12, 13 nad 14, 1917. Besides regular rountlne business, the work for the different depart ments was discussed and planned. All Indications point to the fact that the coming convention will excel any former ones, judging from inter est shown. Practically all of the Ashland clubs plan to be represented at the district federation meet. Last year the fed eration held a very successful session In Ashland. The Southern Oregon District Federation is one of the first in Oregon and was organized at the instigation of members of the Asli lund Federation of Women's Clubs. Kitchen Shower. Thurhday afternoon Mrs. John Dill entertained the friends of Miss Vivian Ureer at her home on North Jlain street. In view of the approach ing wedding of Mr. Ling and Miss Greer October 11, each guest brought a useful article for the kitchen and enlivened the afternoon with toasts to the brldn-elect. The home was tastefully decorated In hearts and the prevailing flowers of the season. Mrs. Dill's genial southern hospitality made the afternoon one of delight to those present, who were: Mrs. J. W. Arrangements are also to be made whereby others Interested in the work, who are not club members, may attend. The first meeting of this class is to be held at the Auxiliary Club room Wednesday evening at 7:30 o'clock, and all Aux iliary Club members are urged to attend. Cupid Is Busy. Cupid Is busy of late, the beautiful September weather and the harvest moon proving able allies. Several announcements of coming marriages have been made in the past two weeks, and rumors indicate that the end is not yet in sight. October will be a regular June in Ashland. The members of the Merley Cir cle of the Baptist church were en tertained la3t Wednesday afternoon The Ashland high school debating team will have just one chance in 56 of capturing the state championship this year, providing no more schools enter the state debating league. This is an unprecedented number and shows a welcome Increase in the in terest in debating. Ashland, Med ford and Grants Pass are In this dis trict. Probably Ashland and Medford will debate, the winner meeting Grants Pass for the district cham pionship. Then the district cham pions will meet, and so on down to the finals. Ashland has some good J material this year, and with last year's leam represented In part, should make a good showing. Pre liminary tryouts fill soon be held. So far 56 high schools have en tered, and a number of registrations have not yet come. The entire reg istration last year was 51, for the year preceding 41, and for the year before that 33. R. L. Kirk, superintendent of schools of Springfield, Ore., is presi dent of the league, and Earl Kilpat rick, assistant dean of the University of Oregon extension division, is sec retary-treasurer. Severely Scalded By Boiling Water Mrs. Hugh Hayes of Ayers Spur is at the Sanitarium suffering from serious scalds sustained from boil ing water. She was filling a tub with hot water when she Blipped and fell, upsetting the tuli and scalding her face and arms. She is reported as resting easily this afternoon. Jackson County Third at State Fair Jackson county captured first prize on farm displays, six firsts on box apples and all firsts on pears at the state fair at Salem, according to word received from D. M. Lowe, who is in charge of the county exhibit. These scores brought Jackson third prize among competing counties on general display. The exhibit sent to the state fair was largely made up of prize-winners at the Jackson county fair held in Medford two weeks ago. Missionary Meeting. The Nazarene women held their missionary meeting at the home of Mrs. C. W. Fraley on Mountain av enue- last Thursday. Business was transacted and plans for future work discussed, aside from the program.
