IIIMlUltlMMHtr ONE BROOD SOW BRING IN OYER $600 Welborn Beeson has a Chester White brood sow who has produced 2 9 pigs in ten days- less -than one year. On September 10, 1912, she had a litter of which ten lived and grew up. In March last she pro duced another litter of ten, and August 29 she produced nine more lusty young porkers who bid fair to bring good money. This one sow has altogether pro duced for Mr. Beeson about 600 pigs which he has sold at various ages, sizes and prices, bringing in over $600. Mr. Beeson says that there is good money In the hog business. He has twelve brood sows, Chester White and Duroc and cross bred, w.hich will bring him about 100 fall pigs. He says that with care and attention pigs are as profitable a crop as it is possible to raise. " To Try Half-Time Schools. Worcester, Mass., Sept. 8. With the reopening of the public schools . last" week an innovation was intro - aucea in the form of half-time schools of grammar and high school grades. The Talent Hotel now has four teen regular boarders, in addition to a large number of transients. It seems to be filling a long-felt want. Mrs. Vance is now working as cook at the Talent Hotel. Miss Dessie Hearing, who was threatened with appendicitis, is again about well. Mrs. Demmer has been on the sick list the past few days. The old soldiers and the various committees have nearly completed the preparations for the reunion which opens Monday next. All, agree that itx is one of the pleasant est camping grounds in the history of the Rogue River Valley reunions. Dr. and Mrs. Hart are rejoicing over the arrival of an eight-pound girl at their home Friday. Mother and child are doing nicely. J. E. Gouley has been somewhat under the weather the past few days. Mr. Ward of Cottage Grove, who recently purcnased the Gouley prop erty, is in Talent and will probably move his family here and occupy the residence as a home. Mr. Scantlin is preparing to erect packing house on his fruitVanch 1 west of -rajent Mrs.. Dole and Miss Dole of the Grand View orchards are back from an extended visit to San Francisco. E. E. Cook went to Ashland on business Saturday forenoon. Welborn Beeson and wife and daughter were at Ashland on busi ness Saturday forenoon. William Bruin is cutting his third crop of alfalfa this week. Alfalfa is proving a very profitable crop this year. Lights for Pacific Coast. Washington, Sept. 8. As a resnlt of the recent loss of the steamer State of California, Senator Miles Poindexter of Washington Thursday announced that he is preparing a resolution providing for the charting and lighting of all Pacific coast points still uncharted. Experiments by a large telephone company have proved that 1,800 wires can be crowded into the same size cable heretofore used for only 1,200 wires without impairing their efficiency. The total amount thereof to be is sued in one year If the County Court shall so order, and to bear interest at the rate of five per cent per an num, and all of the funds so raised shall be expended in building and im proving one permanent road in said county, described as follows, to-wit: Beginning at the corner between fractional sections thirteen (13) and fourteen (14) in township forty- eight (48) north of range seven (7) of the Mount Diablo Meridian, Cali fornia, connecting with the survey of the State Highway of California; thence northerly along the route as now staked out to present County Road; thence following as near as practical the main County Road into and through the City of Ashland, a municipal corporation of Jackson County, Oregon; thence following the main traveled County Road through the towns of Talent, Phoenix, Med ford and Central Point, in a north westerly direction; thence following, as near as practical, the County Road in a northwesterly direction to a point at or near the stream known as Rogue River; thence following the main traveled County Road along said stream in a westerly direction, and terminating at the point where the main traveled County Road on the south side of Rosue River cross es the county line between the coun ties of Jackson and Josephine, Ore gon, and at or near said stream known as the Rogue River. The termini of said road, as herein di rected, is definite and permanent. The line above described between the termini thereof shall be as herein ordered, and shall follow the most practical route for a permanent road, and said road shall be a permanent road and highway through said coun ty. "No person or persons shall hereafter carry on, conduct or transact business in this state under any assumed name or under any designation, name or style, corporate or otherwise, other than the real and true name or names of the person or persona conduct ing such business or having an interest therein." The law in brief is: Such person or persons shall file a cer tificate in the county clerk's office in the county in which said bus iness Js conducted, with the names of all interested persons In said business and their postoffice address. All persons now conducting any business, as is stated above, shall file and have recorded and Indexed in. a book kept for thai purpose a certificate, as above required, within 30 days after this act shall take effect. (Law became effective June 3.) Non-compliance with this law will prevent and debar any per son or persons conducting, carrying on or transacting business as aforesaid from maintaining any suit or action in any courts of this state. "Any person violating any provisions of this act shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punished by a fino not exceeding $100."
