MEADER TALKS OF THE ROAD SITUATION. RANCHMEN MUST DO THEIR SHARE Manager of Sunrrest Orchards Tells of Good Road Work in the East and What Ranchmen Tave to Do With It. A Tidings representative happened to meet J. F. Meader, manager of the Suncrest Orchards, Saturday morn ing. Mr. Meader had attended the good roads booster meeting at Med ford Friday night and was chock full of the matter, for if Mr. Meader has a hobby in ranch work it is the value of good roads to the farmer. In speaking of the matter Mr. Meader expressed surprise that the local ranchmen were so indifferent to the value to themselves, not only as a class, but as individuals, . of good roads. He expresses the opinion that if ranchmen could be brought to see that a day's work put upon the highways in their own neighborhood would save much more than that amount of time and wear and t,ear on their teams and vehicles that they would give their hearty co-operation to the good roads movement, not only by supporting the bond proposition, but by 'assisting in keeping up the dirt roads in their neighborhood. He states that in Vermont, where he formerly resided, it was the un written law that every man should get out when needed and do light repairs on the road in front of his property, and he said that the re sult was a saving to each farmer of much more in time and horseflesh than the amount of labor expended. In speaking of the short-sightedness of some ranchers, and their de sire to have the county do every thing, he told of one man who made several trips to the county seat to induce the county court to put in a culvert in front of his property when a man and team could have ditched along the side of the road and taken care of the water in half a day. It is just such short-sighted work on the part of the ranchmen and other property owners, in Mr. Mead er's opinion, that is helping hold back the development of the valley. He stated that he had seen real es tate men and owners bring prospec tive purchasers to places where they had to wade through unnecessary mud holes in getting into or across the place, and that he never saw a sale made under such circumstances. Nothing will turn a prospective pur chaser from a place quicker than such a condition and- nothing more favorably impresses a stranger than a dry, well-graded and well-kept drive into a place and along In front of it. Mian HAS PHOKMX IX)UXD THH S.1MK? The Answer is Found in the Straight forward Statement of a Phoe nix Resident. We have been reading week after week in the local press of Ashland citizens who have been rid of dis tressing kidney and bladder troubles by Doa:i3 Kidney Pills, and we have often wondered whether the same high opinion of this medicine is to be found in our neighboring towns. This frank and earnest statement by a well-known and respected resident of Phoenix will set this doubt at rest: H. Schurman, carpenter and build er, Phoenix, Ore., says: "Doan's Kidney Pills have ben used in my home to good advantage and we have always found them exactly as repre sented. One of my family was in bad shape with kidney trouble and short use of Doan's Kidney Pills sets him right." . For sale ly all dealers. Price 50 cents.
