The roadway in the center of Main 1

drivi'way, however, and will no doubt i
bo left as it ie.
Dr. S. T. Songer will build a 81500

Th« building of the uew school bouse
at l’boenix baa liegun. It is upon the !
site of the old school bonse, and is to j
be 30x40 feet ground dimensions. The j
cost of the building will be about |
81200, and l’boeuix ie to be congratu
lated upon the improvement.
The exhausted and drowsy feelings,
common to spring time, indicate an
impure and Bluggish condition of the
blixxl, which may be remedied py the
use of Ayer’s Sarsaparilla. It is the
most powerful, and, at tho same time,
most economical bltxxl purifier known.
Neil Bros.’ tine five-year-old Per-
cherou horse was brought into town
and weighed by L. A. Neil last Fri
day, and tipped the beam at over
17(10 lbs. He is not fully grown and
was not iu extra flesh when weighed,
and it is safe to say be will go above
1800 lbs. when matured.

Jacob Thompson, of the Ashland
Livery Stables, bought fourteen head
of good horses recently for A. H.
Ifcxmier, the stage man, who wanted
them to use on lines iu Southeru Cal
ifornia. Mr. Thompson took them
over tho mountains to Ilorubrook aud
shipped them from that point.
Numerous beggars representing
themselves as cnppled by accideut are
collecting alms from unsuspecting and
sympathetic people along tho rail
road in different parts of Southern
Oregon. The young man with the
bandaged arm has been imposing upon
Ashland [x-ople this week. This
"broken" arm fraud is worn out in
many places, but it seems to pay pretty
well yet in Oregon, where such public
begging is comparatively a new thing.
A saddle horse belonging to Geo. C.
Eddings, aud hitched to an iron post
in front of the hardware store last
T’ii'1sday foremxin, became frightened
and pulled the post loose from its fas
tening. Then be "ran a muck" through
the plaza where a large numlier of
teams were standing, dragging the post
by his halter strap. Two buggy horses
iu different places were turned Itxise
by the frightened horse running lx»-
tweeu them and the hitching racks,
and it l*xiked for a time ns if serious
results would follow, but everything
was tlually quieted without any dam
age whatever having beeu done.
