PROHIBI llOX IX GEORGIA.
[Atlanta Constitution.]
Saturday night and no barroom open!
Never liefore tlid Atlanta have such an
ex]>encnee. I walked around through
the heart of the city at 8 o’clock, aa I
had done many times liefore, :uid watched
th»« tigures hurrying along under the
glare of the electric lights. There was
the tramp, tramp, tramp of innumerable
feet, but the town was at least two hours
ahead of time. The streets were quiet
enough for ll> o’clock. 1 noticeil very
few loungers. Almost every man seemed
to have some business to attend to. In
fact there was no particular eddying
place for the men al «mt town. In vain I
looked for the folding dixrrs and the
bright lights of the drinking rooms. In
vain I listened for the sound of clinking
glasses and the buzz and bustle of Satur
day night in the bars. I saw a fish-stall
or two, some clothing stores, a restaurant
or so and sonic drug stores. There were
some meat stalls often also, and here and
there stood a confectioners’s stand. An
ice-cream cake man. somewhat disheart
ened by the ctxtlness of the July evening
w;is shouting in a subdued tone. I won.
dered if any old soakers, made sober by
statute, were carrying home surprise for
the family. I wondered if the tish dealers
sold any more fish than usual, and if the
beef men sold any extra rousts. Let us
hope they did. Let us hope also that at
least a fexv of the eyes long used to tears
were dried when busliand and father got
home last night.
They tell me there is a “sod* cocktail”
which can lie bought by “the right man
at the right time.” I do not mean to
intimate that all ctx-ktails are loaded, but
they say that some men. for a wink and
15 cents, can get a stxla ox'ktail that is
warranted not to rip at the siile or run
down at the heel.
A man said to me; ««I can stand a man
who gets drunk on ’sho-nuff liqnor.
That is, I know pretty well how to man
age such a man; but when you bring me
a mm who is crazy on evasion villainy
1 m going t > stand from under. I hope
the pstple who are lxiuud to have some»
thing will be careful what sort of
dynamite they swallow.”
The State Fuir.
(’apt. J. L Ap|x-rson, president of tlm
State Ixtard of the Agricultural society,
was in the city yesterday, says a Salem
paper and it is learned that the manage
ment intended to make the coining state
fair the most attractive exhibition of ag
ricultural and horticultural products,
machinery, niannfacturvs, eased gixxls,
horse flesh, cattle, sheep and all kinds of
live stock, that was ever held here. The
-•[ hh -11 programme is so far ahead of any
thing ever liefore offered, that, in itself,
will prove a grand attraction. Every in
ducement that ««¡in lx- suggested will be
otfensl to farmers to make exhibits of all
nifoiner of farm produce. st<x«k. etc. Nor
are the ladies to lie forgotten. It is to
lx- hop'd that the ladies will make an ex
hibit of Ixith decorative art, and of paint
ing, sketching, fancy work, "every thing
in their line.” There will lie some of the
work of the best artists of the state on
exhibition, and the pavilion will certainly
lx- more attractive than ever before.
Salem's merchants will lie requested to
make large exhibits of shelf gixxls. and
so will all merchants in the state. Every
body in the state is interested in the
state fair, and every bixly should try to
• xhibit some thing. The "diploma”
racket is thrown in the shad»-, by the cash
prizes to lx* offereiL Let the state fair lie
successful.

AMERICAN HS
l ire first tin oct ; el Urkeu <>u ¡.lie »• ext
ern oeau&plMTe arrived Wednesday m
Chicago from the Black Hills on its way
to New York. The itrqxirtance of this
fact, says the Chicago Tribune, will be
better ttndersbxxl when it is stated that
the United States now imports $30.000,-
000 worth of tin annually, which import
is not only to be blotted out in view of
the vast <le[K>sits in the Black Hills, but
Chicago is to Iteconie the manufacturing
center of the new aetjuisition of ore.
Mr. D. T. Bailey, of Rapid City. D. T„
was until quite recently the United
States territorial geologist of Dakota,
ami largely l<x«ated the vast deposits of
tin ore which have fallen into the bands
of big capitalists. He resigned his posi
tion to become the geologist, mining en
gineer and superintendent of th«* Harney
peak mining, milling and manufacturing
company, which, owing to the amount of
money actually sulrscrilxxl anti the fact
that it has taken possession of the great
tin deposits covering an area of over 7000
square miles, must be looked upon as the
I biggest mining company extant.
Mr. Bailey is in Chicago, ami was in
terviewed concerning the tin lielt. He
said: “While the tin deposits were ex
amined as far hack as I854.it was not un
til last May that we succeeded in invent
I ing a mill for milling ore. The mill as
now built and completed is the only one
in the world and is perfectly successful.
It has established the fact that tin exists
i in paying quantities.
"American machinery is a century ahead
!
of the foreign for treating tin ores. Tn
England the ore is impure, and takes over
one hundred steps from the lime it leaves
the mine until converted into bar tin, and
a corresponding force of men, women
and children. Ry our indention only
four steps are required, including rollers,
crushers, mica separators and contractor,
to secure the same results, and only four
men are required. Our mill has a capac
ity of 200 tons per day. We are building
a furnace to convert the black tin, or con
centrates, into bars of white tin.’’

T K Bolton A co would call the atten
tion of their friends and the public to this
excellent preparation, made in Australia
and San Francisco, California, from the
leaves of a peculiar variety of the Euca

has no sickening property to disturb the
stomach, and is most reliable for curing
coughs, colds, sore throat, whooping cough

Pii. s are frequently preceded by a sense
of weight in the back, loins and lower part
of the abdomen, causing the patient to
suppose he has some affection of the kid
neys or neighboring organs. At times,
symptoms of indigestion art- present, flatu
lency. uneasiness of the stomach, etc. A
moisture, like perspiration, producing a
very disagreeable itching, after getting
warm, is a coinuion attendant. Blind,
bleeding, and itching piles yield at once
to the appileation of Dr. Bosanko’s Pile

affected, absorbing the tumors, allaying
the intense itching, and effecting a perma
