He is irasci ble and snappish, and has lost the control over his worus and actions that he i-rmerly mantained. It was reported that he would be sentenced last Monday, and some one at the jail was asking the officer in charge if that was the case, not thinking that O'Neil could hear what was said. O’Neil overheard, however, and cried out from his cell: “Say, are right d—d anxious to hear a man sen tenced to he hung!” He wants the judge to extend to him the fullest time allowed bjj law, saying he still hopes they will find “the right man.” Grant's Pass h.ui a bakery recently opened by M. Next Easter falls on the latest date on which it possibly can occur, April 25th, under the rule of the Council of Nice, which decrees that Eastc shall be ob served on the Sunday after the full moon following the 21st of March. Its earliest possible date is March 22d. It is 152 years since Easter day has been so late. It will not again fall on that day till 1943 Ash Wednesday will fall, this year, on the 10th of March. Several cases of tonsilitis in town have been reported by frightened people to be diphtheria, but aside from the ono case of Mr. Galey's little boy (outside of town) which Dr. Parson pronounces to be diph theria of a very mild type, there is none of the disease in this part of the valley, s<> far as we can learn. Two cases visit ed by Dr. Songer, and pronounced by ru mor t<> be diphtheria, in the families of Mr. Dennis and Mr. Fountain, are not diphtheria, the Doctor says, simply bad sore throat with some fever. Ex-Judge E. B. Watson has charge of the O'Neil case in the effort to get a re hearing of the argument by the Supreme Court. It is said that Judge Waldo, of that body, is favorable to a rehearing, as he dissented from the majority in the decision rendered. To common people the granting of a “rehearing of the ar gument” by the Supreme Court would look like an acknowledgement on the part of the august judges that they were not “attending to business” when they heard the argument before. The circum locution methods are obtaining tos strong a hold upon some of the courts of Ore gon. Next to scarlet fever, there is no dis ease am<>r>g children more dreaded by parents than whooping cough. It is liable to come at all seasons of the year, it exhausts the strength of the little ones, and physicians are often unable to check it. Mr. F. W. Harbaugh, of the Telegram, Baltimore, Maryland, had six of his children, aged from six to thirteen years, prostrated with this malady at one and the same time. A complete cure was. however, effected by Red Star Cough Cure; and Mr. Harbaugh writes that the cough, which generally lasts nine weeks, loft in four weeks, and he is confident it would have disappeared sooner if he had been aware of the ex istence of such an invaluable remedy. The ex perience of many years has but too clearly demonstrated the inefficiency of quinine and other drugs to effectually combat the progress of intermittent, congestive and bilious remittent fever, while on the other hand, it has been no less clearly shown that the use of the Bitters, a medicine con genial to the frailest constitution, and de rived from purely botanic sources, affords a reliable safeguard against malarial disease, and arrests it when developed.
