THE
TIDINGS
Rev. LaDru Royal was greeted by a
large congregation upon the occasion of his
first sermon in Ashland last Sunday. He
is an attractive speaker and evidently has
devoted his heart to the work.
At the conclusion of Col. Larrabee’s
speech in Houck's Hall last Saturday
evening, E. H Autenrieth was called
for, and responded in a short speech in
which the Republican party caught—
lightning.
The Times says the work of building
the C. C. Wagon Road from the state
line will be let by contract in four sec
tions; that the stock books will soon
arrive in Jacksonville, and work then be
commenced.
It is reported that grasshoppers have
committed great ravages upon the crops
in the Davis creek country, near the
south end of Goose Lake, although suffi
cient provender will be saved for home
consumption.
A tract of wild land adjoining the town

Notice the new advertisement of the
Ashland College, giving lists of the
studies in the several courses.
Good oak and pine wood in any quan
tity for sale cheap by Douglas Guui at
the old Kilgore place in the eastern edge
of town.

Mrs. W. S. Stone and Mrs. Parker,
of San Rafael, the lady who was injured
by the stage accident, made a visit to our
valley last week, being brought over
from Yreka by Dan Cawley. Mrs. Par
ker has about recovered from the effects
of the accident.
Uncle Billy Hurst came in last Satur
day from his mining claim on Beaver
creek. He injured his right hand soon
after he went out, so that he could do
but little work, but lately he and his
partner have been doing some “responsi
ble” ground-sluicing.
A. W. Bish comes into town regularly
on Wednesday and Saturday with pro
duce from Bish <fc Clayton’s gardens, and
he never has any trouble iu disposing of
his load. Those who want anything in
his line should give him their orders in
advance of his visits.

Ex-Senator Mitchell arrived in Ash
land on Friday morning’s stage, and left
Saturday morning in company with Wm.
Carll, for Jacksonville, where he sf>oke
in the evening. He expected to deliver
addresses at Canyonville, Roseburg and
probably Eugene City. While in Ash
land the ex-Spnator was warmly greeted
by his many friends of this neighbor
hood.
