This is commercially the most valuable
fertilising element. It occurs in various
forms or states. Organic nitrogen is the
nitrogen of animal and vegetable matters
generally, existing in the albumen and fibrin
of meat and blood, ifi the uric acid of bird-
dung, tn the urea and hippuric add of urine,
and in a number of other substances. Some
forma of organic nitrogen, aa that of blood
and meat, are highly active as fertilizers;
others, aa that of hair and leather, are com
paratively slow in their effect on vegetation,
Unless thane matters are reduced to a fine
powder or chemically disintegrated. Am-
mouia and nitric acid are results of decay
of organic nitrogen in the soil and manure
heap, and are the most active forma of ni­
trogen. They occur in commerce—the for­
mer in sulphate of ammonia, the latter io

by tbe local newspaper that constantly is
gathering its items. People do not proper­
ly appreciate their home newspaper. The
home paper at any prioe is the cheapest pa­
per one can take.”
