E d . T idings .—¿Since L.V last com-
mumcation, it vras reported that a ven
turesome Nimrod, who resides near the
banks of Rogue River, was successful
in killing a nice fat bear, the meat of
which was very generously distributed ;
but a treacherous wheelbarrow track
led an enquiring genius to the remains
ofa wild hog,and the discovery seemed to
detract u little from the novelty of the
hunt; but hunters, like men of other
occupations are liable to their misfor
tunes; though it appears that this little
difficulty might have been obviated by
the use of due caution.
Wild ducks, near the river, have been
very nnoferons t-iuce the late rains; they
visit the grain fields in large flocks and
are somewhat destructive—a good op
portunity for practice with a long
range sfict-gun, but no other would be
effective.

List week we noticed the first ap

with a smiling countenance and a plug

were circulated on the 14th; with us
the time honored custom was partially
laid aside. Not being a believer in

jd this section. The L viriden School

nearly every Monday evening, with old

enjoy themselves; and I am «pleased to

The general health along the river
is good.
The urchin who bid behind the

well out of his left eye.
Very little farm work has been done
since the late rains, but the miners are at
work, and many are doing well. There
is plenty of gold iu this country, but
it Las a vast amount of dirt mixed with
it. Mr. Mel> »ugal proposes, the com
ing summer, to turn the water of R. R.
at the Big Bar, a short distance above
the new bridge, and work the main
channel. This is a difficult undertak
ing, but will no doubt prove a profita
ble one.
Geo. Fradenburg and Mill Horn,

They lost one ear aud

the other, but after floating down the
swift current for some distauce, they
reached the shore in safety.
