THE FRIDAY ASHLAND TIDINGS UNION LIVERY S ale JANUARY, 18, 1878 and ROBT GARRE IT, E xchange ASHLAND AND LINKVILLE STABLES, Frost-Fairies. Tbe children have wondered for many a day. How the pretty frost-pictures, all i liver »Dd gray, Of churches, and castles and pal ices bright. Are made on the window in one single Digit. So listen all children, a story to hear; At hst the deep myst’ry is perfectly clear. Be quiet as c m be, keep ej es and f.ce bright, And bear of wtui I siw, one odd winter night. ’Twas late, and the who:e world was sleeping AL<1 still, The moon shining softly on valley and hill, Wben quick came a tipping on e icb window-pane Like the murmur and tinkle of mid-summer n.in. Right shyly I peepel from the curtain drawn t ght, And Ju! what a marvelous, beauteous eight— A whole host of Lines, all sparkling and g y, With J>ck Frost, as leader, to show them the way. King Jack,of suca ancient and world-wide renown, Wis duly equipped with hie scepter and crown, Wbile each tiny fdry the "frost-gems’* bad dunned, And each c iriied g dly the magical wand. The caeemsDt was peopled from coruice to rill. Audeoon on the window-pane« icy and chill, C»tne rivers, and bridges, and foiests und flowers, Cathedrals, and c o ties, and wonderful to wers 8u brilliant and dozzliug—so wondrous y Mr, That only a fairy-wani could paint hem there. Il seemed but a moment- the bright work w.s done < Aud Ku g Jack said, "Fairlee, ere rising uf sun We’ve thousands of windows to silver and froel; So let us away, fur no time must be luet.” And s «iftly they flew, on their soft dewy wings To All other windows wi h beautiful thiigs— To cheer other hearts, as bey d cheered mine before, Iu callmg io mind childish fancies of yoye. And now, my dear children, the story you ve beard, B tl lest you should doubt me, just listen a word: Iu tbe window, some night, hide as slyly as elves, Keep perfectly quiet and see fur yourselves.
