Wo arrived at the ranch of Mr. J. A. Greve, just as night shut out the view, where we remained until morning. Mr. Grove’s ranch is loca- ted on and includes within its litniis the source of Fall ere* k. Numerous springs rise on a level plain, some of them producing enough water to turn a mill. These spring branches wind through the glade in shallow furrow’- like channi ls, more resembling irriga- tin » (lit dies than natural streams. A single furrow running across some of them would carry Hie water iu astraight line f r humin* I of yards, at right an gles t > its former bed. Mr. Greve has some sixty acres of line meadow laud at this place, the product: veness of which lie proved this year by housing eight tuns of Lav, from three acres of wheat sowed iu June, II ! is engaged in stock ruining and has locat 'd this piace as a home !<ja 1. The completed circle of summer an.l winter, seed time and harvest has brought us to the accustomed season at which religious peeple Celebrate nith praise and thanksgiving the enduring mercy of Almighty Go I. T'r’s devout and public confession of the constant dependance of man upon the Divino Father for al! good gifts of life and health, of peace and happiness, so early in our history made a habit of by our people, finds in the survey of the past year m w grounds for its joyful and graft fill manifestation in ail the bless ings which depend upon our benignant seasons. This lias been a memorable year over the wide territory of our conutry. With all its diversity of soil and climate and product*, the earth has yieldid a bountiful retain to the labor of the husbandman. The health of tho people has been blighted by no preva lent or widespread diseases. No great disasters of shipwreck upon ourcoists, or to onr commerce on the seas have brought loss and hardship to our mer chants or mariners, and tho unclouded happiness of community with sympa thetic sorrow. In all that concerns our strength and peace and grea‘ncss us 11 nation; in all that touches the }>erma- nence and sacurity of ocr government and tho benificeut institutions on which it rests; in all that i.ff cts the character and dispositions of our people and tests onr capacity to enjoy and uphold the equal and fn o condition of society is now permanent and univcreal through out tho laud. The experience of tho last year is conspicuously marked by the protecting providence of God, and is full of promise au l hope for coming generations. Under a ser.se of these infinite obligations to the Great Ruler of the times and seasons and events, let 11s humbly ascribe it to our own faults and frailties, if any degree of that per fect concord and happiness, peaco and justice which such great mercies should diffuse through the h. arts and lives of our paoplo, do uot altogether and al- ways and everywhere prevail, Let us with one spirit and one voice lift up praise and thanksgiving to G )d for his manifold goodness to our land, and his manifest care for the nation. Now, therefore, I, Rutherford B.
