THE ASHLAND TIDINGS FRIDAY................. <............................ AUG. 17, 1877. The Pioneer Reunion. Gen. E. L. Applegate, of Lane county, having been invited by the committee of arrangements for the Southern Ore gon Pioneer Reunion,to take place at the camp ground near Phoenix, on the sec ond Tuasday in September, has respon ded, under date of August 7, to Mi. Sutton’s letter of invitation, in the fol lowing characteristic manner: ‘‘Your letter of Aug. 1, came to band yesterday, and in answer will say that I will accept the invitation and comply with the request. I very much*appre- ciate the compliment of an invitation by this committee; in fact I am happy in being recognized as one of the pio neers of Southern Oregon, for thus I recognize the fact. As early as 1853 I rushed to the defense of the pioneers of that beautiful land, armed and equip ped, and mounted on my fierce mus tang. I shall be glad and proud if I can say something that may add to the pleasure and profit of that occasion, The Annual Reunion at the Old Camp Ground.’” We hope the people of the country generally will not fail to be out in force on the occasion of the first annual re union. The general committee of ar rangements consists of J. M. Sutton, Esq , Gen. John E. Ross and E. K. An derson; men not better known to the earlier than to the later history of Southern Oregon, and who are thor oughly capable of getting up a pro gramme for the Reunion which will not only instruct but intensely interest everybody. As soon as they complete the programme we shall publish it in the T idings . Remember the second Tuesday in September and let us have a rousing time. i THE INDIAN WAR.
